Assembling a list of places we want to visit, even for a weekend, the next few years/decades. Due to sports writing, I've been fortunate to visit a lot of places, but my wife and I have only really been to San Francisco and Hawaii (Maui) together. She's been to Seattle (as have I) separately, and we've also both been to D.C. Not that we won't end up in one of those places again, but I want to hit some places that either one or the other have not been:

For starters:

New Orleans
New York City
Nashville
Austin
Portland (Oregon)

Where else is awesome?

Boston -- love that dirty water

San Diego - best weather in the USA

Berkeley, CA

We actually stayed in Berkeley when we took a vacation to San Francisco/Bay Area. We were awakened by an earthquake. I remember that.

I forgot that we've also been to Minneapolis together.

I know you are looking for cities, but I really like to visit National Parks.

Minneapolis is way underrated. If you avoid going in the winter, it's a great city.

I love New York City, but it's a tough place to travel when you have young kids.

Baltimore. Underrated eating town.

I don't particularly care for Las Vegas, but if you've never been there you obviously need to go at least once.

Santa Fe
Kansas City
Charleston W.V.
Newport, R.I.

On my 50 states by 50 list, I'm up to 35 or 36 states but I hadn't really thought about cities to visit.

Don't ever go to Baton Rouge. It's a dump

Dallas has never done much for me either. Just seems like a lot of urban
sprawl.

Charleston has a cool vibe as does Providence but probably not worth
stand alone trips.

I'm also a big fan of Phoenix/ Scottsdale area.

I visited Seattle (as well as Victoria, BC and Vancouver, BC) last month and absoluty loved it. It was a surprisingly cheap town to drink in. Lots of good beer and bar food in my experience.

The Northwest is great. Portland, Seattle, Eugene. Obviously not in the US, but you can never go wrong in Vancouver. I love Toronto too, even though I know some don't.

Long Beach Ca.
Burlington Vermont
Brattleboro Vermont
Bennington Vermont
New Hope P-A
Iowa City in during a Hawkeye Football Saturday
Hanover New Hampshire
Santa Fe

I also love Toronto. Very much like New York culturally, but not nearly as big and intimidating.

I rag on Alabama a lot, but I really did enjoy my two years there. Florence is an underrated town. Great downtown scene with solid restaurants and bars (at least when I was there). It was interesting driving around the state from time to time and visiting random towns I'd never heard of.

Nashville, New Orleans, and Seattle are probably my top 3 favorite cities. Had a great time in Dallas and El Paso, too.
