I'm wondering how much of a generation gap thing we have going on SportsJournalists.com? I mentioned Sophie's Choice on Alma's thread (to me one of the greatest films ever made)... Then I realized people here may have only been babies when it came out... and haven't had a chance to see it.

Just curious.

Kate Winslet is a fine actress... Mr. Lugs secret crush, I think...

But Titanic was her most famous role-- her biggest role. That was a movie where the ship and the director were the stars-- not the actors, and certainly not the script.

And she's young. How can you have seen Sophie's Choice and list a Winslet or a Johnny Depp in the same company?

I think I was about 13 or 14 when it came out.

No idea if I saw it or not.

If you voted "not sure," that probably means you haven't seen it.

I think there's a scene in it that's more gut-wrenching than... say, the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan.

It's almost like the answer is too obvious. Who are the best male and female actors working? Daniel Day Lewis and Meryl Streep. Would anyone argue against that?

My goal is to have someone start a thread titled ____ Spawned by Dooley's Thread.

As if. :-\

Yes, apparently some of us feel that the dramatic endeavors of Adam Sandler and Jim Carey are not adequately described as under-appreciated but rise to the level of top-of-their-craft.
Whodathunk

You people do know it was a movie about a Nazi concentration camp, right?

I honestly would have guessed it was about abortion.

Well, in an abstract sorta way, it is.

For those who haven't seen it: Rent it. Watch it. You'll understand the title and you will never forget the scene where the choice is made.

I would. Not necessarily Day-Lewis. Definitely Streep.
