Man arrested for sex with 14-year-old

BARTOW - Polk detectives have arrested a Ft. Lauderdale man after they say he traveled to Polk County on numerous occasions to have sex with a 14-year-old girl.

According to Polk investigators, 39-year-old Richard Gagnon Jr. came to Polk County five different times, and took the girl to different motels for sex.

Detectives say the two met on MySpace, and Gagnon communicated with her via MySpace instant messaging, Yahoo instant messaging and over a cell phone.

Gagnon was arrested yesterday at a Motel 6 at 3120 U.S. Highway 98 North in Lakeland.

Deputies found Gagnon and the victim there after the victim snuck out of her house, leaving a note for her mother that she would be gone for about a week.

The girl's mother contacted police, and detectives were able to figure out where she was after talking to her friends.

Gagnon was arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail.

He has been charged with interference with child custody, enticing a child via the internet, traveling to meet a minor, three counts of lewd battery, and three counts of lewd molestation.

I played high school football with a guy who looked exactly like that. And, yes, his nickname was Sloth.
