More McClatchy layoffs?

Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

Help Support Sports Journalists Forum:

The McClatchy shop that I know moved its page production to Charlotte recently but did the humane thing and allowed the remaining news-side deskers to join the Charlotte operation remotely. No layoffs, no relocations.

That's basically true, but . . .

Someone who basically did sports design 6 months ago (6-12 pages a shift) now is responsible for almost all the live pages in a section---1A, jumps, local, sports---(12-22 pages).

Thanks. It's really helpful after finding out I'm going to be laid off after 10+ years at this place for you to mock me over that spelling error on this site. I hope it made you feel better about yourself.
Make sure you proofread your résumé.

What is this "merit" raise of which you speak? What is a raise? My last salary adjustment was in 2008 or there about. Most of my interaction with higher-ups consists of this, "We know it is going to be more work for you, but ..." It's the only truth that has come from their mouths in years. They definitely haven't lied to me in that regard.

That's why you need to get out of that business. I know I'm not telling you something you don't already know, and I know how hard it can be to do. But speaking from the other side, I hope that's your priority, because it really is better over here.
