More Cuts at ESPN

Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

Help Support Sports Journalists Forum:

I had, years ago, a number for Joe Namath. A 212 area code number. I cannot remember where I got it.

One day I called the number. I figured if it was him I would see if he wanted to talk and wing it. A guy answered, I asked for Namath, and he said, "Who wants to know?" I laid it out and he said, "He's not talking to anyone."

Was it Joe Willie? Some bodega in SoHo? An agent? Bookie? Stranger with that number? I have no clue.

But I always kept the card and number because, real or not, I had Joe Namath's phone number.
It was the Medicare Hotline.

I'm in on the bundle - mostly for Hulu - but I imagine if you are really into some of the stuff ESPN plus shows, it's not a big cost. I can't believe people have time to watch out of market baseball games and fork over whatever the MLB charges.

ESPN+ is worth it for the live coverage. Not so much the limited-access stories, which have slipped noticeably in quality the past couple years.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change.
The hell that won't eventually get passed into the Disney bundle. Even Pinocchio couldn't be that blatant. I'm expecting yet another bump in my Hulu rates at the end of the year because I'm certain there's no way to sever the ESPN portion.

Streaming, which promised ala carte pricing, has now become cable without the guy in the van wasting an entire day installing a box on your TV.
And with the added benefit of not having to see cable guy ass crack.

Since my club has been relegated to the Championship, ESPN+ is useful for watching Watford get skunked by Reading or some such ****.

After the many seasons of not getting to watch Wigan on a normal TV, I can't wait for ESPN+ matches this season!!

Never used a company phone for this very reason. My absolute nightmare…also, for you young journalists out there, keep a hard copy/word document/spreadsheet of your contacts somewhere safe and take time to update it every six months or so.

Mine wasn’t contacts but it was social media. When I gave notice at my previous station six months ago, they let me go the next day. Also killed my work Facebook “fan page” with 34k followers that I had built up over 13 years. Certainly their right but, by doing so, they also killed a lot of the content that brought goodwill to the station as well — positive stories, pictures and posts. Weather coverage. Their entire drone library. All because they had to press the nuclear button.

TV station execs are such petty assholes. I don't miss my time at the one I worked at.
