The Philadelphia Flyers said restricted free agent defenseman Shea Weber has agreed to an offer sheet worth a reported $110 million over 14 years. This is insane from the amount of money being thrown out to the number of years in the contract. Slavery may have been abolished but 14 years? Things have gotten a bit out of hand with these contracts.

14 years is extreme but A) He is arguably the best defenceman in the league and has been for the last three or four years, and B) as JC pointed out he is only 26, playing till he's 40 is not out of the realm of reality, it is actually far more realistic than the deal Pronger signed which would have had him playing until he was 43 -- a $4.9 million cap hit the Flyers are stuck with even if the gap-toothed douchebag retires due to this latest concussion because he signed the deal after he turned 35.
