No offense to anyone who really takes this BS seriously (well, you are going to offended)--including anyone who says, "I could be in it if I wanted to"--but from my perspective, you might as well write "member of the douchebag club" on your resume. Anyone who boasts about how intelligent they are, usually has other issues that an employer should worry about--whether or not the person is really intelligent or not. Intelligence shows itself. You don't have to join a club or announce it to the world.

The fact that I said that means I don't take it seriously, Ragu. I don't care enough about it to join. I never posted my I.Q., nor will I, because no one cares. I also answered no to Rusty's second question. But thanks for playing.

Alrighty then. Someone had an extra glass of Sanka (fortified with ginseng) this morning.

You would have to be an idiot to list MENSA membership on your resume - which, come to think of it, would ruin the purpose of being a MENSA member.

Being a MENSA member wouldn't help your employer/supervisor in the least. Having a great number of phone numbers and ability to contact people - that would be VERY helpful

Does having extra thin skin qualify a person for MENSA membership?

I'm not in MENSA, but I am mulling an invitation from the Douchebag Club.

Some of my favorite tidbits from the Mensa.org info page.

They had the idea of forming a society for bright people...

Today there are some 100,000 Mensans in 100 countries throughout the world. There are active Mensa organizations in over 40 countries on every continent except Antarctica.
Stupid penguins

There are Mensans for whom Mensa provides a sense of family...

Most Mensans have a good sense of humor, and they like to talk. And, usually, they have a lot to say.
No commentary needed

Of course, individual Mensa members often have strong opinions--and several of them. It is said that in a room with 12 Mensans you will find at least 13 differing opinions on any given subject.

If you want to take a practice, on-line test, the Mensa Workout is an intelligence quiz...
Will I need a shower after the Mensa Workout?

You are visitor no. 1915263
No pride in that distinction

Sports editors -- heck, most editors -- like their people to be meat-eating, belching, flatulating oafs. Mentioning you're in MENSA will not help your cause.

We used to have a MENSA club come to the bar once every couple of months to play NTN. Haven't seen them in a while. They usually got their asses kicked, trivia wise, by the bar regulars. They were harmless enough, but they invited me to a MENSA party, and I, um, declined.

While I don't share Wicked's assessment of what would make an ideal job candidate, no, I think sticking MENSA on your resume would look silly and pretentious. You want to participate in the club social stuff, fine. Leave it off of your job qualifications.
