I meant the Nationals or Orioles. But I've got a feeling a Teixeira signing wouldn't necessarily be about winning, which is sad -- especially for Baltimore. That city, and that franchise, needs a winning baseball team. It's been starved for far too long.

I hope the Blowrioles lose forever. Or at least until Peter Angelos sells the team and someone who's actually a decent human being buys the team. ****abuncha Blowrioles.

I'm glad the Nats at least got in the game. It will be a few more years before they can be taken seriously but I'm happy they at least appear to be willing to spend.

Orioles said they are out of the running for Teixeira unless he decides he really, really wants to play for them. The Orioles were basically scared off after the Nationals and Sox upped their offers.

Olsen, Lannen, Redding, Balester, Martis.

That's the Nats present starting rotation. Only one, Lannen, had a sub-4 ERA last season (3.91).

You have to have strong front-line starting pitching to compete. If that rotation stands as it is, the Nats will not.

The eight teams that went to the playoffs last season were in the top 11 in team ERA during the regular season.

Olsen and Lannan will be in there for sure. Redding has been non-tendered. He won't be back. They like this Jordan Zimmermann kid. They have first dibs in the draft and will take Strasburg. Balestar has a chance to be good, it would be nice if he could stay in AAA a year. Same with Martis.
They'll add one more pitcher somehow.

I was thinking more in two.

Two years ago, Nats won 73 games. They weren't good. They didn't suck. Injuries and some other crap (much of it self inflicted/bad play) conspired to ruin last season. I believe the Nats can be in the 75-80 range this year with better injury luck, better years by a couple of players (but not years they're not capable of) and development of a couple of key prospects. In 2010, with a strong draft and Strasburg in tow, perhaps. Perhaps. Teixeira speeds up the time table.

The Rays are every dog's best friend. They give hope to the downtrodden. The Nats pitch should have been: Dude, we're the next Rays. You complete the puzzle. Here's a ****pile of money.

I really don't know, Chris, but I'd like it to be the Angels. One thing I'm tired of is the information crawl across the bottom on ESPN saying that Teixeira is close to a decision. They've been running that for 48 hours. I don't want to see it anymore until they can tell me where he's going.

Casey's career high in home runs was 25 and he reached 20 only three times. He never drove in 100 runs in a season, though he had 99 twice. He has 130 home runs for his career, which is just about done.

Teixeira has five consecutive season over 30 home runs and 100 RBI, including 43 HR and 144 RBI in 2005. He had 26 home runs and 83 RBI as a rookie in '03. He is 28 years old and already has 203 career home runs.

Teixeira probably isn't worth the money he is going to get, but he is better than you are giving him credit for.

I want to know who the lone vote for the Yankees came from. Quite a few votes for the Angels, too. Not suprising considering the Angels top priority was Sabathia.

Sabathia was never the Angels' top priority. It has always been Teixeira.

I also think the Nats have more problems than would be solved by signing Teixeira. I also think $22.5 million per year would be better served filling holes, particularly in starting pitching and the bullpen (**** you very much Jim Bowden for trading Jon Rausch!). They need more hitting than one big bopper. Instead of pitching around Ryan Zimmerman, teams would pitch around Teixeira. And they've got to catch the friggin' baseball and make routine plays.

The Nats have some talent in the farm system, but they're several years away. And we don't even know if all or any of the players are going to be even major league starters yet. I don't think a Teixeira signing solves enough of the Nats problems, but he would solve one glaring deficiency.

Part of value for a team is whether fans will pay to see the guy play. Teixara is a nice player but I would not go out of my way to see him play.
