Apologize if this is a DB, but I didn't see it mentioned in the earlier thread.

Sun-Times sports department has to be an interesting place to work right now:

Mariotti went on to say that Sun-Times beat writer Joe Cowley "has issues" and wrote a "pathetic" column after the Sox's blowup-doll controversy.

He had harsher words for fellow columnist Rick Telander after Callaway played a clip of Telander asking why Mariotti is always so angry and determined to find "the dark side."

Mariotti: "If you're not interested in, as he says, 'the dark side' of sports, then get out of the business."

Callaway: "Wait a second. Nobody has said more about the dark side of college football than Rick Telander."

Mariotti: "We're all supposed to cover the entire spectrum. Don't sit here and stereotype me. That's just a smear campaign from a guy who … if he calls me angry, I call him bitter and old. This is a fellow who needs to examine the newspaper business, where it is right now, where the Sun-Times is in this market and maybe get his act into gear and help us win this battle …"

Looks like a TV segment that comes on tonight.

I think it's totally inappropriate to rip a column by a co-worker.

Agree completely. How hard is it to say, "Rick has his opinion and I have mine."

I guess that newly signed contract has made him brave.

I don't think the DA will even press charges.

But detached, "Locker room? What locker room? Where's that?" Jay has no issues, whatsoever.

Nah.

I think the Cowley-Mariotti feud has the dynamics to be far more interesting this weekend and moving forward than the Telander-Mariotti feud.

Cowley once wrote that Joe Posnanski was "trying to make a name for himself" by criticizing Ozzie Guillen's All-Star selections.

Yeah, unknown, unappreciated, barely read Joe Posnanski had to try to ride Ozzie Guillen's coat tails to stardom.

Say what you want about Mariotti, but Cowley is clearly, clearly, clearly in the tank for the White Sox to an embarrassing degree, and anyone you talk to in Chicago knows it.

After his last snipe, you would think he would learn his lesson. But no, and the ***** is he won't be suspended for it..

After this, I'm expecting the next Mariotti thread will have the headline, "Mariotti gets his ass kicked."

CHICAGO -- Sun-Times columnist and star of ESPN's "Around The Horn" Jay Mariotti was discovered in a dark alley Saturday with Rick Telander's laptop inserted into his ass ...

I don't know how the hell their management puts up with that **** from any side. It's one thing to spark interest in your section, but these guys are just undermining their product.

At least when Lupica bashes his fellow columnists he doesn't do it on radio or TV.

No, he just runs to the big office with his little stiletto unsheathed.

I'll say it again, I'll take Couch over either of them.

With you on that.

Management doesn't smack down Mariotti for the same reasons Detroit management coddles and covers Albom: Star system. They create the monster and then the monster runs the joint. Most newspaper managers like to flex on smaller fries in the office. Gutless, 98 percent of them.

Jay ... you're a pissy little *****.

Double dog dare you to come on this thread and respond. Oh, right... that would take guts.
