Pioneer Press, a part of Sun-Times Media, is seeking a Managing Editor for Sports who will be responsible for directing a team that produces relevant sports content in our communities for digital and print publishing, as well as providing assistance in web and print production.
A candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field is preferred. Previous newsroom leadership experience is required. Digital news gathering experience desired. Must be able to drive to various locations to accomplish the job and be able to work a flexible work schedule.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Assists in digital and print production of sports content.
• Provide leadership for News Producers in sports, reporters, and independent contractors.
• Direct sports coverage for the central part of Pioneer Press’ coverage area.
• Ensure complete and accurate sports coverage in a timely fashion.
• Monitor for breaking sports news.
• Implement new strategies and initiatives across Pioneer Press.
• Interact with public and readers on various issues.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Strong communication and relationship building skills.
• Able to plan, organize, manage and track multiple projects.
• Knowledge of gathering, writing and editing news.
• Critical thinker.
