Job Requirements: The college football and men’s basketball website LostLettermen.com is looking for a managing editor to join its team.

Their main responsibilities will be:
• Updating profiles for the site’s massive player database often called “the IMDb of college sports”
• Writing unique content for the site such as features and Top 10 lists
• Promoting content through social media and other outlets to drive traffic to the site

The candidate must be located in the New York City area as the job is located in Brooklyn, NY. The candidate will be expected to work 9 AM-7 PM on weekdays and remotely from Noon-6 PM on Sundays.

The candidate must have at least 2 years of experience working in sports journalism, be an avid college football and men’s basketball fan, generate lots of great ideas for unique content, be extremely self-motivated and willing to work long hours for this unique opportunity to be part of a small team of huge sports fans. Experience with a website is preferred but not required.

The pay is $35,000 a year and the candidate must be self-motivated, organized, creative, meticulous and willing to work long hours.

About: LostLettermen.com is a college football and men’s basketball website launched in March 2009. It has a database of 175,000 former athletes that answers the question “Where Are They Now?” and also creates its own unique content, such as features and Top 10 lists. It has content partnerships with AOL Fanhouse and Yahoo and regularly appears on the home page of the world’s fourth-most trafficked website.

I realize a job is a job is a job ... and maybe if you're already living with your parents in the area and don't have to buy/rent ... and have no social life to speak of ... and maybe this and maybe that ...

But I'd be ashamed to come on a board looking for somebody to come to damn near the most expensive place in the country, to work damn near 60 hours a week and get $3 north of minimum wage to do it.

You are right. People shouldn't be whining. People also shouldn't be applying. Absolute bull**** right there 6 days a week. Not to mention, on 35k you will have to move to New Jersey. Enjoy the hour plus commute each morning. You will be waking up at 7 and not getting home until after 8.

Anyone seriously considering this should seriously consider putting their skills into something else. Find a job at a company that won't **** you. Yes, I know times are tough, and sports writing is fun. But you know what else is fun? Making a living wage, working 37.5 hours per week and getting home by 5:30 each night.

Seriously, you are MUCH better off doing Yankee Fan's coffee stuff.

You will spend most of your time inputing data about what former college athletes, including guys who played a couple games for SOuthern Illinois in 1977, are doing now. If that sounds like fun to you, go for it. You will NOT be covering live events.

I saw features on the website. Not live reporting, but they are stories and I'm sure it is possible to actually write real stories down the line...

KYSportsWriter, who's whining? I'm just simply stating the obvious. If you want to work 60 hours for a wage similar to that of high school dropouts, please overlook my comment. But me, I use common sense and rational thinking to make decisions. And common sense tells me that working 60 hours for $35k in one of the country's most expensive cities seems like I'm being ****ed over. That's all I'm saying.

Oh yeah, my relative drives the garbage truck in New York City and makes $50k. If you think you're worth $15k less than a garbage truck driver - please apply.
