Louisville headlines

For the local papers, I think the best headlines are when they do the CHAMPS!!! or CHAMPIONS!!! across the top.

Don't try to get cute.

I agree that using "Cards" in a headline is hacky, but that won't prevent good papers or websites from doing it.

Tampa Bay Times went with THRILL 'VILLE.
That's pretty good.
Haven't seen Tampa Tribune yet, but I would be surprised if they got the game in the St. Pete edition.

Kentucky Kernel: "Dominique Hawkins to announce decision Wednesday "

They used House of Cards.

Seen it in a couple of places.

But that phrase means something fragile, something that could topple over at any moment.

Don't really think it fits when a team kicks ass and wins a title.

Posted a topic on this on journalism board (gee, I hope I put it in the right place) but also wanted to note it here.

NOT this:

It's easier to go from sports to news than from news to sports.

I lost count of the number of times I had to correct an A1 teaser while trying not to burst out laughing.

Atlanta Constitution.

It's Title-ville.

And a column on the page:
Cards at top of the deck

Too Late for Deadline. (I didn't get a story from the AP in time)

To be clear, the game ended before your deadline, and the only reason you didn't get a story in was because the Associated Press' early gamer moved too slowly?

Yep. Deadline's 11 p.m. Central time and I didn't have anything other than a box score. Every once in a while I can get a break on it, but new managing editor shot the deadline all to hell three or four times while she was trying to get used to things a month ago and it's been zero tolerance for a while.

Publisher doesn't care. Hyper-local sells papers, right?

And you were unable to string together five to 10 sentences about the game?
