Local TV reporters wearing team gear

Two local TV reporters worked the Redskins preseason games as sideline reporters, wearing Redskins polo shirts. Definitely caught my attention, but beyond this, I haven't heard much about it.

Nothing new. The Packers' preseason sideline reporter has worn a Packers polo for years ... and she's a sports anchor in Milwaukee.

Yeah, I don't know why this is a surprise to anyone. They're working for the Skins in that capacity. If the station had a problem with them wearing Redskins gear they wouldn't let them work for the Skins.

Anytime I act appalled by a local TV person doing that, others look at me with this stupid look and say something like, "but of course [local yokel] is going to wear [local team's] gear. Don't you want them on the home team's side?"

I've finally given up.

Actually, NCAA D-II women's hoops. High school-level talent, though.

Local sports guy for TV station also is play-by-play guy for the local NFL sqaud's radio team. I don't care for it, don't think he can be too objective, but that's the way it goes.

Don't know whether they're paid by WWL or the Saints, but the one thing I love about Jim Henderson and Hokie Gajan (the Saints' radio team) is that they have never been afraid to rip the team on the air when it's warranted. I don't know how it is in other NFL markets, but Saints fans have come to expect a high level of honesty from their radio broadcasts.

The Fox Sports Rocky Mountain field reporter wears Rockies gear during games. Not all of them, but a few. Jackets too. When Seth Smith won the game on Wednesday night, you could see her in the background clapping as Smith rounded first.

Don't know whether they're paid by WWL or the Saints, but the one thing I love about Jim Henderson and Hokie Gajan (the Saints' radio team) is that they have never been afraid to rip the team on the air when it's warranted. I don't know how it is in other NFL markets, but Saints fans have come to expect a high level of honesty from their radio broadcasts.

Henderson got a bad rap after his screaming "Nooooo!" after Carney missed the kick following the Jacksonville miracle kick return, but he's always struck a nice level of homer and critic. I miss Archie on the broadcasts, though.

Last time I was in Little Rock a couple of months ago, finding a sports guy on TV who wasn't wearing Razorback red was disgustingly hard.

And this was in July. And on all three channels.

If someone is drawing a paycheck from a team for doing a game, and it's not a part of his duties at the station, then there shouldn't be any problem. What gets me is the number of stories that sneak into the newscast about sports bars, apparrel shops, or the great grandfather that's been a season ticket holder since 1852, just by the oddest of coincidences, during the week of the big game,that just happens to be on this channel!

All for personalization, don't get me wrong, but that's what you get when non-sports people are doing sports, as so many stations have now. The news people gotta stick to news.

Especially on game days, when I worked in TV, if our SEC school was on the verge of a win, our ND sent one of our news people to local bars to get VO and sound.

I usually don't get the highlights. I'm out cold by the 11 o'clock news.
