MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. - A local cheerleader is kicked off the squad, and she’s only six years old. The reason for her removal caused a war of words on a local radio station.

The gloves are off with this bitter battle. The concerned mom told FOX 2 this all started when she wanted to alter a cheer for her six-year-old and other six year olds. Instead, she said she unleashed a firestorm of emotion.

It’s the cheer heard in and around Madison Heights.

“Our backs ache, our skirts are too tight, we shake our booties from left to right.”

A cheer Jennifer Tesch thought was a little too suggestive for her six-year-old daughter Kennedy to chant.

“Flabbergasted, I guess the best word you can say because one it doesn’t make any sense. To say a six-year-old should be saying those words is inappropriate,” said Tesch.

She expressed her feelings to the general manager, the coach and the board, who claim the cheer has been around for years and the squad had no intention of squashing it.

Tesch claims they disapproved of her concern so much on Tuesday night the board that runs the Madison Heights Wolverines kicked her daughter off the team.

That is the reason for existence for cheerleading: To shake your booty for male athletes.

I got one of those "cheerleading is a sport" advocacy e-mails from a parent just today.

I forwarded it to the community editor.

Send them a link to this story.

And here's a video they might enjoy as well.

They are what we thought they were.

I hope that I got out of that video quickly enough before an alarm went off in a sex crimes unit somewhere.

That about sums it up. As the father of a 7-year-old girl, that video makes me sick.

Latest update from this dignified, legitimate athletic endeavor:

http://rivals.yahoo.com/highschool/blog/prep_rally/post/Connecticut-cheerleaders-want-uniforms-with-more?urn=highschool-274505

Earlier this year, cheerleaders in one Florida district had to get special permission to wear their skirts on game day, because the uniforms were too skimpy for a new dress code. In a fascinating twist, last week cheerleaders in Connecticut begged school officials to help make their uniforms less skimpy.

According to the Connecticut Post and NBC Connecticut, Heidi Medina, the captain of Bridgeport Central's cheerleading squad, stood before the Bridgeport Board of Education in her team's standard uniform, which bares athletes midriffs and uses either small shorts or baggy sweatpants as bottoms, to make a statement that it was inappropriate.

Since I'm apparently the only one who knows the difference, this is not the type of cheerleading that is trying to be classified as a sport.

I said it before on here, but I'll repeat: I was asked to cover a competitive cheerleading event once. When they wouldn't give me the scores, I walked out.

I have a daughter, and I have a strong desire not to have her marginalized, but I also have a desire not to have her objectified. I'm extremely glad she chose something other than cheerleading.
