Sent a racy text to the whole team ... d'oh!

A former Lancaster High School girls basketball coach has been indicted on five counts of sexual battery following a lengthy investigation related to a racy and inappropriate text message inadvertently sent to his team.

Scott Zollinger, 47, of Lancaster, will face arraignment next week in Fairfield County Common Pleas Court.

David Kessler, an investigator with the Fairfield County prosecutor's office, Kessler declined to describe the nature of the relationship between Zollinger and the student or provide other details of the case.

Zollinger resigned 18 months ago after he admitted to sending a female student the text message: "Didn't c any tan lines in that pic. U were layin out on the nude beach weren't u! Have a great day. Iluvmshhh."

It was addressed to a "hot ... mama," but was mistakenly sent to his entire girls basketball team.

So he was sending that to a student (presumably a player) but sent it to the whole team by mistake?

The story is kind of whack because it says he mistakenly sent the text to the whole team but then mentions a relationship with "the student."

I wonder what would have happened if that was meant for his 35-year-old girlfriend and he mistakenly sent it to the team.

why would he have the team's numbers programmed into his phone? I coach as well, but would never put my players info in my phone. If I have to talk to the player, we do it before practice. If mom and dad need a call, we pull out the info sheet. sounds creepy.

Because texting is how team members communicate, coaches often program their numbers in the phone for ease of communication. Of course, that assumes said coaches are ethical.

I wonder if the principal's number was also in his phone. Now that would be interesting if the principal got that text message.

I'm guessing that's the actual coach. It seems more like a message from a freaky coach whose trying to be friendly with his players in his own creepy way. Doesn't seem like a sexual predator text.

Would you mind expanding on that thought? Coach just trying to be friendly with his players in "his own creepy way"???

"Creepy way" probably wasn't the right phrase to use. My bad. My question is whether he's "interested" in women or men. I didn't want to go out of bounds on it, so I didn't state it directly. But, I'm not entirely sure, based on the message, if it was meant to be viewed in a sexual manner. I'm guessing it was a moronic lapse of judgement, not necessarily a sexual predator text message. Now if there is evidence of actual physical contact with players, everything I just said is wrong. But I'm not entirely sure of what his true intentions were at this point.

My son's coach texted his whole team about practices, when to meet for games, changes in scheduling, etc. It's not unusual these days.

Every time I've ever gotten a player's number from a coach it's been in his or her cell phone.

So how long until some district passes a rule that only women can coach girls' teams? Not exactly fair, but, then again, not the first time we've heard of an incident like this.

Yeah, women only coaches will take care of the problem.

That coach looks like a balding Colin Cowherd with a shiny suit.

Don't know what jurisdiction that coach is in but hard to see how texting is "sexual battery." Battery historically meant actual contact with someone's body. Perhaps this refers to the actual relationship with the unnamed student?

I'd be shocked if they charged this guy with "sexual battery" for a text message. They probably have more stuff on him. If they don't, the charge is way overblown.

That won't solve the problem, in fact in some ways, it might make it worse:
