LA conflict: Surfers vs. Paparazzi

MALIBU, Calif.—Authorities say there has been another incident on a Malibu beach involving surfers and paparazzi.

Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. John Kniest says there was a confrontation Sunday afternoon near Paradise Cove between what appeared to be local surfers and the paparazzi. He says 20 to 30 people were involved and the surfers felt the paparazzi didn't belong on the beach.

Kniest said no one was seriously injured and no one was in custody. Investigators will review the reports Monday.

The confrontation occurred in the same area on the beach where a day earlier a paparazzo trying to photograph actor Matthew McConaughey told deputies he was attacked by a mob of surfers who threw his camera in the ocean.

Authorities said McConaughey was not involved in Saturday's incident and was not at the beach during Sunday's scuffle.

If the paps were covering actual newsworthy events that would be one thing. But they're not. They're stalking McConaughey at the beach surfing just because it's McConaughey at the beach surfing.

How dare people be on a public beach! The nerve!!!! They should get their asses kicked.

My brother in law is a big surfer in that area, and he said the spot where this went down is a real prime surfing spot pretty much known only to locals. He said it was probably about protecting the turf from being overrun more than anything.

Also, I think drinking beer and smoking pot is a hell of a lot more honorable existence than being one of those paparazzi loosers.
