Interesting situation in Miami

Well, Ace, assuming you didn't mean to put on the blue font, if she was covering him and having a relationship with him at the same time, and nobody knew, then a lot of people would care at her paper, and rightfully so.

The e-mails also raise questions about the objectivity of The Herald's schools coverage last year. The Herald's ethics policy prohibits reporters from having a ''close personal relationship'' with people they cover, and conflicts of interest must be disclosed to editors.

''There are long-standing and very clear standards when it comes to relationships with the people we cover,'' Herald Executive Editor Anders Gyllenhaal said. ``If these e-mails are real, this violates some of the most basic rules of our profession.''

So that's who cares.

He was a source who was a very important and a high-ranking official on her beat, not just a source per se.

If someone doctored the e-mail communications between the guy and the reporter, who would it be, how would they have access and what would the motive be, considering she's no longer on the job or even in town?

I'm not doubting, I'm just asking. That's some pretty nefarious bull****, to tamper with e-mail contents. Gotta think a computer forensics person could ID that.

Could the Globe legally dismiss an employee for bad judgment (to say the least) that had not previously come to light? I certainly think so.

Consider this: Say she were sued for libel while at the Globe. Would the Globe want to defend her in court and have the opposing attorney be able to use the kind of ammunition now at hand to challenge her honesty?

if she's an at-will employee, they could dismiss her for any reason or no reason at all.

i think the globe is a union paper so it might not be so easy.
