Interesting find on a web site I just discovered:

http://www.regrettheerror.com/2011/07/25/massive-failure-of-disclosure-by-writer-brings-seattle-weekly-cover-story-into-question/

Yeah, probably should have given up that info.

Yeah, other than Rick actually being Liysa Northon, kind of hard to top that one.

Pics and the story here...

Lawyers will make a little money off of this.

OTOH, there may be a job open for them soon at a TV station in Rhode Island ...

If they were serious, they would open it up to commenters.[/crossthread]

This has been the best thing I've read in a long time. I sent it to a couple coworkers. We're all gobsmacked.

Get this guy hooked up with the freelancer who exposed the fraudulent-ticket-writing police officer - and had been given a DWI from that officer - and you could have a hell of a staff.

Yep. The Santa Barbara News-Press doesn't see the problem with this story:

I hope Rick gets an extra conjugal visit for his trouble.

I do love the reasoning that community journalists write about people they have relationships with all the time.

Personally, I can't hardly write a story about a tennis player without the tennis mom chasing me around the locker room.

Yes, that's a bunch of nonsense...I've been in community journalism for 15 years now, and yes, you build a network of contacts like you would at any newspaper, but I'm not sitting at Coach Podunk's family BBQ on a Saturday afternoon.

Please speak American.

The more I think about this, the more I'm stunned. My guess is there will be an opening at the Chieftain soon. At least, I certainly hope so.

How can the journalistic integrity and judgment of this person, which reportedly holds the title of editor and publisher, ever be trusted again? How many previous stories have been compromised in the Chieftain due to this person's clouded and sorely misguided attempt at being a leader of a community newspaper?

Really, I don't get the big deal.

I'm engaged to all my sources.

But the police chief is getting a little big for his britches.

That doesn't sound that bad.

I'm not complaining. It's the readers who are tired of tennis stories.

The Wisconsin State Journal had an oops - they did a story about a medical procedure. Interviewed one of the recipients, before the story ran they interviewed someone from the hospital who didn't mention the patient they featured died a few days earlier. Story runs a couple days later.
