Ok, here a chance to pay tribute to a great, and hopefully not too forgotten, era of music, the 1970s.

Feel free to share any of the great songwriters of the era. I'm not talking about the Bee Gees, either. These are the timeless songwriters who just graced us with a handful of songs, that we can all enjoy for the rest of our lives.

Oh, you have to give a YouTube link so the song can be enjoyed by all.

I will start with the great Boz Scaggs. The last few minutes of this clip shows how great this song is, and how great it sounds live.

Andrew Gold

Maybe I just have a sweet spot for these songs because I was about six or seven when they came out, but in my eyes they are just fantastic.

Damn, Bob, I had Terry Jacks in my mind as soon as I saw the thread ...

so here's one more ...

plus a 70s guilty pleasure:

How about some John Prine
(video is from '89, but the song is from '78)

Good piece from Jim Croce, Barsuk. I really like this one:

Thank you, America:

Then there's this one, which comes rushing back when I go where I'm going later this week:

Holy leaping ****.
TERRY JACKS?
ANDREW GOLD?
What is wrong with you people?

That ******* song. The worst thing that happens to him is that his parents bring home HIS SISTER?
It is not possible to be that much of a ******.
And to think, he wrote "Faithless Love," my favorite Ronstadt cut of all time.

When I think of the early 70s and singer/songwriters, one of the songs I think of is this one.

He's not taken seriously because of so many of his novelty tunes, but this one really takes me back.

What, you'd prefer Dan Hill and Albert Hammond?

Warren Zevon was awesome. Wrote great songs, had a terrific voice, died way too young.

Here's another clip. The actual "Excitable Boy."

Incredible guitar solo at the end, by the way.

Andrew Gold and Terry Jacks? Mehhh.......
But you might not know that Gold played keyboards on Don Henley's "Johnny Can't Read," a killer ditty if there ever was one. And Gold's keyboards really drove that song.

Great tune. Check it out:

I'm old enough to remember when Jim Croce was just coming into his own on the national stage. 1972, I guess, and "Operator" was my favorite, but Croce ran off five or six top songs before he died in a plane crash in 1973. The guy was tearing up the radio back then.

Pull up Croce on YouTube, and you'll like everything he's got. He was the next Paul Simon, and I wish I coulda heard 20 more years of what he had to give.

Here he is talking about "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown," and then singing it:

The story before the song is as good as the song itself.
And it's why I love YouTube and this InterWebTube thing: You can find stuff you never thought you would get a chance to see again.
