How quickly I forget

But don't you love how all of the softball chants get stuck in your head for days??

Ole, ole, ole, ole
Hit that ball the other way
Our team is hot, hot, hot
Your team is not, not, not
So hit that ball, ball, ball,
Over the wall, wall, wall
OLE!

Ahhh, I'm just thrilled to get out of the office.
You know what, people still tell me, "Wow, you get to go to these games for free?" And it still hasn't worn off yet.
Sure, there are those 28-7 games that are almost painful to sit through, but the 1-0 games with pitchers that I couldn't hit make it worthwhile.
It's a bad day, nothing more, nothing less. Tomorrow might be better, and that's the appeal.

Covered my first softball game of the spring. It's amazing how quickly I forget that these can be some of the most brutal games you'll ever see. More errors than hits, bases-loaded walks and wild pitches galore. Thank goodness for the mercy rule. It's just a shame that it doesn't kick in until the fifth inning.
What's worse, a game like that or a two-day, 21-inning 1-0 game? Fifteen innings played one day, the rest played a week later.
Have had two 20-plus inning games the last two years. I feel blessed not to have attended either, however.

One duck's on the pond
Get another one on
Get a hit, quack, quack
Get a hit, quack, quack

I think we can all agree that preps sucks and that it will always suck and there is nothing we can do about it but ***** on here.

Well, no, I think you're wrong on both ends.

Preps suck in direct proportion to how much you think they suck. Think they suck 100%? Then they do.

My prep guy doesn't sit around moaning about how preps suck.

In the words of the Vault commercial, he Gets To It. And produces a lot of great copy, wonderful little stories off his beat. Definitely doesn't suck from his POV. And voila, his stuff doesn't suck either.

there are good stories everywhere. i love reading well-written prep stuff when I'm out of town and haven't even heard of the schools. you can tell which writers are going in thinking, "This sucks," and who respects the job and is trying to write good stuff. if I'm an SE and I need to fill a pro beat or college beat, I'm not going to look at the whining little twerp who's been crying about prep stuff for three years. If I have a guy who's approached high school sports seriously and dug up good stories and never complained about it, he's going to be considered.

but, yeah, the level of whining by prep writers is horrifying

if you don't like it, go find another job

shut up and write a good story
