Another horse broke down today. Pretty terrible stuff.

The Del Mar official statement is ridiculous. They continue to believe the turf course is safe, even though A DOZEN horses have died? Who's writing their statements, Baghdad Bob?

I don't follow the ponies, but I went to Del Mar last Sunday for the first time, The turf races were switched to the main track and I thought it was just because there was a serious thunderstorm that morning. One of the people I was with is a horse owner and he was mentioning the two casualties a day or two before. Between races, workers were changing the fence near where the home stretch starts. And you could see other workers casually walking on the turf course and from time to time, they'd stomp the ground, like fixing a divot.

No more turf sprints for the meet . . . and no turf racing the rest of this week.

“We’re feeling snake-bit,” Del Mar Turf Club spokesman Mac McBride said. “Have we seen anything like this before? No, we have not. If we could figure this out, we would stop it. I mean – Jesus – it just keeps happening.”
