The networks are calling the congressional race for Shuler.
Good thing Steve Spurrier didn't come home to run against him. Shuler would have gone 17-for-43 with three picks.

Doesn't a former underachieving Tennessee QB who fell flat on his face in the NFL deserve his own thread? Proof positive of the dumbing-down of politics if this stiff can win.

If he'd been successful in the NFL then Shuler's somehow a more legit candidate? The guy's a successful businessman in real estate now. What makes him unworthy to serve in the House?

Hopefully shuler will serve the country as well as another QB who went to the CFL to play...JC Watts

I'm not interested in this thread, but hondo's line about Spurrier made me chuckle. Good stuff.

You can't spell Democratic House Majority without UT.

Well, you can, but I'm pretty sure I saw Democraic Hose Majoriy in the bargain bin at my local Russian video store.

If getting elected to Congress is what an underachieving Tennessee QB who fell flat on his face in the NFL can accomplish, Michael Irvin can surely be elected King of Bolivia and cure herpes, at the same time.

Sure Michael wouldn't want to be ambassador to Bolivia? He could eliminate the middleman in scoring his blow.

Don't laugh, but Shuler could be a player on the national political scene. He's going to be poster boy for the conservative, Democratic movement.
Religious, successful businessman, family man. Basically an appealing mix of the middle majority. Plus, at 34, he's in Congress and has a good 30 to 40 years left for a political career.
