When I clicked the link, the headline was changed to "Bulldogs overcome illness, slaps Dusters 64-57" and, other than the horrible grammar, I couldn't figure out why there was a thread on it.

So when did the papers merge? Last I knew, they were separate entities and I believe the rivalry was spirited.

One of my teams played a state volleyball quarterfinal (nickname: Copper Kings) vs. a team called the "Lady Stags."

In the 80's when I lived out in that general direction, Liberal's girls teams called themselves the Redskinettes.

We also have Buckettes (boys are the Bucks).
By the way, the state association publishes a book each year listing each school and important information (sports offered, school contact numbers, etc), including the team nicknames. Not one has "Lady" officially listed as part of a name, including the all-girls schools
On a side note, I graduated high school in '87 in Iowa and the girls teams at my school then used Bruinettes (boys were the Bears).
