And then there's this - there's a lot of speculation that the building contracting company is looking to duck out on workman's comp, hospital costs, or a lawsuit.

I’ve been in construction for 30 yrs; it’s tragic if I see cracks in concrete. This? Unbelievable. Typically there’s daily inspections and oversight due to potential ramifications. Here? I don’t know but to get to a total collapse? That’s almost criminal by multiple parties; people knowing the potential consequences and yet continuing on with their conduct.

Shoddy construction can happen anywhere but in New Orleans I always wonder who was on the take.

There is a shot in that Spanish language video of one of those metal extendable temporary foundation supports in an open space. It was bent into an arc by the pressure on it from the concrete floor above sagging. The guy mentioned that they could not take it out because of all the weight it was supporting. That was scary as hell.

I've worked construction, and I've seen guys on a job site do shoddy work and walk away from it with a "Yeah, well, I can't see that from the house." Looks like the architect and the general contractor did the same. Somebody's ass is grass.

Maybe the concrete didn’t have enough rebar in it, or maybe the metal in the building was substandard or maybe the engineering was faulty.

Whatever, that’s a complete and total ****up. I wouldn’t trust those folks to build a doghouse.

I got my first Hard Rock T-shirt (back when that was a thing) from the one in NOLA off Jackson Square. Sounds like they should have stuck with the cafe.

What is wrong with people? They did the controlled demolition of the cranes today and people were whooping and cheering. Meanwhile, two of the victims are still in the ****ing rubble because it’s not safe to recover their bodies.
