Happy Easter

Growing up the holiday was a big deal - dinner at grandparents, the whole family around the table. Egg hunts etc. Now? Maybe a nicer than average meal. Its funny though - you never hear Fox News say anything about a "War on Easter". Maybe that will get us to make it a paid holiday? I wonder if its because typically "Easter" for the most part is done by noon.

Easter wishes from the Hulkster, and I cannot help but hear it in his "1980s cutting a promo on Andre the Giant" voice.

I remember flipping through the channels and seeing these guys on what I called the Praise The Lord Channel, for want of a better description.

These guys would try to do feats of strength, doubt themselves, pray a bunch, fail the first time, pray a lot more and then complete the feat of strength to cheers and amens. Vince McMahon probably took some notes.

Except one time, when one of the guys was trying to lift a log. No matter how much they prayed, the guy couldn’t do it. Finally, the head Steroid Preacher told the audience that lifting the log didn’t matter because they were believing in God anyways. Even teenage me thought that was a crock.

I think it is because Easter is actually more personal to most people than even Christmas is. That keeps it close to the vest, as it were -- or at least more so than in regard to Christmas, which is more broadly known, understood and celebrated, and, from a commercial standpoint, it is also more consumer-driven, for a longer length of time, than is Easter.

I was actually thinking of this a little bit last night during/after attending church, and realized that I find Easter an incredibly powerful weekend, both in the Bible, and in my own heart. In my opinion, the scene of the thieves on the cross on either side of Jesus on Good Friday is among the most gripping, and telling for humanity, in the entire Bible, and others during Christ's execution and after his death and resurrection are so poignant, and important to the faith. In fact, they are the foundation of the faith.

That ****ing idiot has no experience with a Bible,
and absolutely no historical knowledge of Jesus Christ.

He's right up there with Kid Rock and Your Boy Trump.
Avoid at all costs if you can somehow tear your right-wing eyeballs away.

Wow. That escalated quickly.

Why would you even post that Hogan tweet?
Do you actually believe that happy horse****?

Wrestling is fake, and Hogan is fake, and Hogan is a grifter, too.

Funny. My current employer doesn't really recognize it as a holiday ... which stunned my mother's husband. Told him I took no real time off for it. He's smart enough not to get upset at me - not my doing - but I suspect it didn't really thrill him, either.

And to further prove my enduring Christianity, I'm watching a film with an obvious Jewish theme during my extended break since I started early. Should have seen this years and years ago. How's that for an Easter egg?

About 30 years ago, I was in Eugene, Ore., for a football game. I grabbed the Register Guard and there was a feature on these guys. One of them was Keith Davis, a linebacker who I covered in high school and college at USC. He might be the guy on the far left in this photo. The Power of God or something like that. They did feats of strength, then preached the word of the Lord to the audience.

1) It's an Easter thread, and it was an Easter-related tweet.

2) I thought it was funny that he was tweeting about his spiritual journey with the same verbiage and cadence that he used in his wrestling promos. That's really it. I thought it was funny.
Obviously you did not find it funny. I suppose our sense of humor is just different, and leave it at that.

3) I'm well aware of Hogan's checkered personal history. Don't have strong feelings on it one way or the other.

4) Guessing you won't be checking in on the pro wrestling thread?

5) Show us on the WWF Wrestling Buddy doll where the Hulkster hurt you.

When my son was younger, he played with the exact same Hulk Hogan wrestling buddy that I played with when I was a kid.

Not sure I want to know why my mom kept it for all those years.
