Left. Right. In a box by the door.
The winners of the 2009 Ig Nobel Prizes---for research and achievement that makes you say, "Ha! Wait. What?"---were announced last night at Harvard University's Sanders Theater. The big prize, this year for economics, was awarded to the directors and auditors of four Iceland banks, including the Central Bank of Iceland, for demonstrating that tiny banks can quickly be transformed into big banks ... and just as quickly be transformed back into tiny banks ... and also for demonstrating that the same principle applies to Iceland's national economy.

The Ig Nobel Medicine Prize was awarded to a Chicago trio who invented a brassiere that can be repurposed as two gas masks---one for the bra wearer, one for a hapless bystander.

This year's Ig Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to four researchers from the University of Bern in Switzerland, who undertook experiments to determine whether it is better to be smashed over the head with a full bottle of beer or with an empty bottle. The 2009 chemistry prize was awarded to researchers from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México who developed a process to make diamonds from tequila.

We must emphasize that we are not making this up. Any of it.

Are you saying that I have to choose between diamonds and tequila?

Damn.

Not on my watch, you don't. ;)
