I'm not sure what the best part is. It could be that he spelled her name wrong when he ran with it.

No, it really isn't.

Tomorrow: The Big Lead has it on good authority that Matt Leinart's new love interest is Billy Donovan. More details coming after the Jerky Boys return his e-mail.

Billy Donovan Sheds Tears, Yearns for JG Wentworth (*updated*)
College Basketball, Drugs Patrick Imig February 16th. 2008, 1:56pm

Sometimes these stories write themselves. Billy Donovan is in a dire financial situation because he doesn’ t know how to properly buy a home.

‘It seemed like a great offer at the time — the interest was so low! But then about six months ago, the ARM kicked in, and now my payments are out of control,’ a tearful Donovan told an SSNN reporter in January.

Donovan, who earns an average annual salary of $1.7 million per year, said that while he hates relying on the government for a bailout, it is really the only option he has at this point. By his estimates, the place will end up costing him $30 million after all is said and done.

Donovan’s accountant Ronald Silberstein confirmed the coach’s predicament, adding that it is never a good idea to buy a $6 million piece of property on a 40-year term with no money down–no matter how many staircases the house has.

This is like a how-(not)to infomercial, only the main character is a well known basketball coach who looks like Timothy Bryce from American Psycho.

EDIT: the story is fake. It’s all satire.

I think this part: "was she Facebookable."

Cue the Big Lead's typical route of running with something after apparent minimal effort to corroborate, then shrugging it off as "well newspapers get things wrong." Once is a mistake, numerous times is a habit.

Seriously, do we start posting all the incorrect stories Deadspin has run after receiving anonymous emails, just to see who comes out ahead?

At what point do these sites become accountable? Is a lawsuit the endgame?

Not saying it doesn't happen, because I don't follow Deadspin. But for some reason, I am aware of at least three instances that The Big Lead has posted false stories and I am not aware of Deadspin ever doing it. Do you have any examples of Deadspin putting up a false story? I am genuinely curious.
