I'm an Xer. More cynical? Yes. More conservative? Not no, but hell no. I've gotten more liberal, more green and more vegetarian.

Almost every vegetarian I know is an Xer, myself included. In fact most of the greenies I know are Xers as well. Being conservative at work doesn't necessarily mean we're conservative about everything.

Like the article said, I don't trust corporations. (I do trust people.)

I think our generation is more nimble in the workforce. We're more willing to accept or be reconciled to job changes-- and quickly.

I don't know. I think mine comes from some pretty horrible personal experiences with men when I was a teenager.

Likewise ... as well, when I was a teen, we were bombarded with messages about date rape and then GHB in my 20s.

I only caught the tail end of X, and in some ways I fall more into the classification of Y, but I'm not strongly either. True, I don't have any children yet, but it's because I'm trying to get beyond the paycheck to paycheck lifestyle first. It has nothing to do with not wanting them. If I had my way, I would already have two little rugrats.

I get pissed off every time I see some young, unmarried couple get pregnant, then run out and get the state to pay for everything with the child birth, plus all the medical bills the first few years, as well as food. It pisses me off because it's not fair. I'm married, I work, and I take responsibility for the things I do and mistakes I've made. Because of that, I'm denied (not that I would want them) the benefits given to these lazy, irresponsible little ****s who get to do whatever the hell they want to do, when they want to do it.

Actually a lot more apathetic now than I was in high school/college.

Never shunned anything because I've never really been in the position TO shun anything

Conservative for the most part, but I was telling someone that I've evolved into devil's advocate/****ing asshole mode; that is, I figure out what the political mood is in a given room and gravitate towards the opposite direction -- every majority I've encountered, liberal and conservative, are full of dickbags.

Also I've gotten fatter. Somehow.

Hmmm. Interesting question.

I would say not so much lack of trust in people as in "the system", whatever that means. I don't trust in the old ideas that you work hard, get married, have two kids, mow your lawn, live happily ever after. I think it's possible, and I think marriage, kids are the key to achieving true happiness in some way, but, I don't know, I just don't want to be as boring and lame as the older generation.

There's different ways at getting from Point A to Point B. I have no desire to be rich. I have no desire to be working weekends and 60 hours a week for...for what? Might as well be poor and happy.

Class of 1986 here, just turned 40 a few months ago.

I'm damn tired of the Baby Boomers. Yes, they did a lot of great things over the years. But they screwed up a bunch of stuff too that'll be left for us and future generations to fix.

I hate that ad with Dennis Hopper about all the new things retirement means or whatever the hell it is. Boot to the Head.

The local classic rock station and their self important ads about the greatest music and the generation that was with it. Boot to the Head (and a big glass of NWA telling you to suck a ****)

On another board I frequent I enjoy riling the baby boomer types by arguing how much better rap is than classic rock, esp Pink Floyd and Zep. You think the flaming here gets bad! That being said I am turning into a curmudgeon who thinks there are no more good rock bands or hip hop acts.

And don't forget that when that kid is 16, it'll be repeating the process all over again. Until our society stops voting for politicians who vote to reward irresponsible behavior, someone is always going to have a hand in your pocket making it harder for you to get what you want out of life.

Born in '63, which I believe technically puts me in with the Baby Boomers, but I couldn't possibly be any further removed from that group. Not even close.

Can relate much more to the X group, even if I don't actually hit the qualifications.

Class of 93 here.

One kid, who starts kindergarten Thursday. Wife wants another, I have serious doubts. Medical realities seem to have taken the decision out of hands though.

Less conservative than I used to be, although that just means I'm now center-right as opposed to reactionary. Still, my friends at Southern Baptist church would be shocked to hear many of my views. My parents would probably faint dead away.

I'm comfortable with technology, but don't see the point in a lot of it. Don't get what the thrill is of poking through someone's dirty laundry on Facebook.

My work life is at a dead end, but that has more to do with bad choices I made 10-12 years ago. I don't blame society for the rut that I'm in.

I just turned 40. I have no kids, but I love kids. To have kids, I'd have to have a woman who wants to birth them with me and that hasn't happened. I suppose I have had a wee bit to do with that. I am cynical. I don't know what the words liberal or conservative mean anymore. Fiscally, I am very conservative; to a "Boston Tea Party" extreme. When it comes to civil rights, I am pretty liberal, I guess. I was a total Generation Xer career-wise. I'm well educated but refused to do the things I was "supposed" to do with my education. I do OK, but at 40, I have the nagging feeling I should have done more than I have up until now. But that might be a personality thing, because I have always been like that; no matter what I am up to, I feel like a **** up. I definitely don't feel like I have grown up at all. But most of my friends have, so I think I am an anomaly, not representative of a generation.

I generally try to be optimistic, but I like to think I know when I'm being played. So I guess I keep cynicism on the hip, in case I hafta draw. Really haven't liked much music made after 1996 (some tho). Have a kid in college, but most of the time I feel not much older than the young'un. Kennedy liberal. Up and down on fiscal responsibility.
