That might be low because they don't have a way to track money wagered on illegal websites.

And it might be high because I could bet $100 worth five times before I lose it all, so maybe I actually wagered $500 but lost just $100.

I remember when riverboat gambling first came to Iowa, and the rules seemed pretty strict. Could only gamble when the boat was actually out on the water, and when you boarded, you got a series of tear-off tickets, maybe 10 $20 tickets, and you had to give them a ticket for every $20 in chips you purchased. After the 10 tickets were gone, you were done gambling, so the most you could lose on a trip was $200. Decent buffet, though.

That feels like a thousand years ago.

When Colorado first started with three gambling towns in 1991, they only had slots, blackjack and poker with a limit of $5. In 2009, craps and roulette were added with a maximum wager of $100. Sports gambling started May 1, 2020, in the middle of COVID and has produced a ton more money than they ever expected. In 2021, betting limits were lifted in the three gambling towns. Casinos are only in the three mountain towns and two on reservations in the southwest part of the state.
