I collected basketball cards as a kid. And for some reason, my one set was complete for MONTHS.....except for the Fennis Dembo card. I couldn't find that ******* card no matter how many packs I bought. I eventually found it, but still. **** Fennis Dembo.

... was supposed to be THE ****!

I really liked Fennis Dembo.

But wasn't there another SI cover shot where he's flying thru the air?

All he did was win championships. One NBA season, one championship ring.

Greatest ever.

I have a game program signed by Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars and Fennis Dembo from 1988.

It's not quite as bad as the training camp autographs I used to get at Niners training camp in Rocklin where Jerry Rice would sign next to four guys who were cut after the second preseason game... :D

The same thing used to happen at the Senior Bowl. I remember waiting in line for half an hour to get Tracy Rocker's autograph in 1989, thinking he would be the next great NFL D-tackle. I also got autographs from 10 or 12 guys on the field after the '83 game (Bill Elko, John Tice, Steve Korte), but somehow missed Dan Marino.

Remember interviewing him at the airport when the Pistons' plane landed... he was a little kid, eyes wide in disbelief over the crowd and winning a championship...

Saw Dembo and Leckner run UCLA off the court in the NCAA first round.
Next year, saw LMU run Dembo and Leckner off the court in the NCAA first round.

Remember Dembo from Fox Tech high school in San Antonio. Had a sister named Fenise.

That's odd. The story I always heard about his name was that it was a variation of finis, as in finished, because his mother said when he was born that she was done having kids.

Loved Dembo and Derrick Chievous; had a thing for late-80s high-scoring forwards who did nothing in the pros.

Wasn't Derrick Chievous the kid whose nickname was Band-Aid because he always wore a band-aid somewhere on him for no reason whatsoever?
