This place is challenging Roswell and Martinsville for the dubious title of "Most Job Openings Annually."
From JournalismJobs.com:
Company: The Daily Times
Position: Sports writer
Location: Farmington, New Mexico
Description:
Imagine life right in the middle of a western novel: The magnificent Rocky Mountains within view and only an hour to the north. The colorful Navajo Nation only minutes to the west. High desert landscape with endless scenic views and spectacular sunsets right here in town. And, at an altitude higher than the mile-high city of Denver, the weather here is as good as it gets, with sunshine year-round, cool summer breezes, dry temps and mild winters.
Add to that: the annual Connie Mack World Series for baseball nuts wanting to see the nation's best pro and college prospects, the soon-to-return national high school rodeo, colorful Native American festivals, hot air balloon festivals, some of the best fly fishing in the world, a ski resort an hour away, one of the most modern public libraries in the nation, an awesome indoor aquatic center, the recently ranked No. 1 public golf course in the U.S., great rafting...well...you get the picture.
Farmington is the commerce center for the Four Corners region, tucked in the northwest corner of New Mexico and only an hour south of the Colorado resorts in Durango. We also serve readers in Arizona and Utah, making us the chief media source for the entire Four Corners region. Furthermore, we know good journalism, we have exciting new goals and we aim to become one of the best community newspapers in the nation. We preach local first, and we're darn serious about our new goals for quality journalism across the board.
We need a sports writer who can write lively gamers and can use Quark to design pages with zinger headlines and layouts. We're looking to capture the local sports scene with a strong connection to the community. It's a fun place to cover sports if you like baseball, rodeo, preps and anything to do with the great outdoors.
We're looking for top-caliber folks, like the one just stolen from us by a larger paper. Don't apply unless you still believe you can have fun at a good newspaper; and unless you love hiking, camping, fly-fishing, biking, skiing, Jeeping, and all the other fun stuff we like too.
We work hard; we play hard. We have many new expectations, and we are placing the bar high. The newsroom is charged and excited about its new direction. Want to join us?
Please send a cover letter, resume and clips (including editing samples if available) to: Troy Turner, editor, The Daily Times, P.O. Box 450, Farmington, N.M. 87499; or to [email protected].
