People in Canada have bought iPads, only to find a clay mold inside. It's a typical retail return scam where someone buys an iPad, puts the clay inside, and returns the box and hoping no one checks inside.
When I worked at Best Buy in the mid 90s, a scam happened with computers with crooks swapping out the hard drive and other components, and putting rocks inside. After that happened, we had to physically open the case before returns would be accepted.
