SB Nation, the largest independent sports media network, is looking for an Executive Editor to be the strategic and creative lead of SBNation.com. We want someone who can conceive, refine and package dynamic sports coverage that resonates with both hardcore and casual fans and pushes the boundaries of sports journalism. If you’re driven to create content that rises above the fray, we’re looking for YOU.

This is a major league job. The person in this position will evolve the voice of SBNation.com and direct coverage across all professional sports leagues, here and abroad. Our brand mission is to share all that’s compelling, weird, and inspiring about sports. We find new and original ways to appreciate sports, both as a source of stuff that has to be seen, and as stuff our audience needs to see anew. And we reach over 80 million people a month doing it, so the work you do in this job will be seen. A lot.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • A proven track record of building and managing a large editorial team to create both long and short-lead content in a variety of formats
  • A collaborative attitude and the passion to innovate and move the brand forward
  • A creative thinker who can develop ambitious stories and packages around both tentpole events (Super Bowl, NBA playoffs, NHL Finals, etc.) and evergreen subjects which will define the SB Nation brand
  • A demonstrated understanding of programming, engagement and distribution strategies
  • Strength in creating thorough processes for producing content in a timely manner, and an instinctive understanding of how to present stories in the right format (written, visual and video)
  • A passion for sports and the internet and a knowledge of the user experience on different media platforms
  • Experience creating smart, engaging stories that set precedent and tone in the sports media landscape
  • Eagerness to further develop our long-form, reported, and analytical features

What you’d be doing:

  • Managing and developing a team of editors, writers and freelancers to oversee and help shape the editorial strategy of SBNation.com
  • Actively shaping the daily context mix for overall brand voice and varied coverage
  • Collaborating with design, video, product, engagement and storytelling teams to help stories realize their full potential
  • Working closely with an edit team on long-range planning of well features, multi-platform packages, and event coverage
  • Recruiting freelance contributors who can help us speak to sports fans in a dynamic and compelling way

If this describes you, please submit: a cover letter that includes links to your three favorite sports stories of the past year, a resume, and three words you think describe SBNation.com's voice.

Executive Editor, SBNation.com

Big boy job that I'm guessing probably pays $40,000 a year. Good luck living in New York City off that.
