From what I've read online, the doctor knew what he was looking at.
Never heard of this injury before. But there is little time when it becomes a crisis.

I've read on line also and all the articles seem purposely vague as to where
surgery was performed.

I thought the same thing (but didn't want to say it first), that just maybe there was some iffy medical care. Then again my knowledge of this kind of condition couldn't fit on a single arm hair.

O'Brien didn't mention anything about losing his arm for no good reason. And it's not like he could fly to America for a second opinion at a later date. It was lose the arm NOW or die, as he explained it himself.
