Looks like Irene is going to spoil one of last weekends of summer on East
Coast.

Nice reference.

And, yes, Irene is gonna be a mean one.

3B - you were the odds on favorite to pick up on reference.

This is nasty stuff. After hitting North Carolina, Irene is going to hit the whole East Coast -- and possibly make a direct hit on NYC.

Wish us North Carolina folks luck. Knowing how we are, the milk, bread and bottled water are probably all gone from the grocery stores by now. And the beer.

I'm in Rhode Island, and people are completely losing their ****. The media companies aren't exactly helping, since there is rampant, unceasing coverage of the storm as well.

It might be annoying, but it will likely save some lives.

I'm just glad it turned. The path it was only about Tuesday and it slamming my family but now looks like they'll only catch the edge.

Projections of likely winds when the damn thing hits New England have been cut in half in the last 16 hours, and for that, am most grateful.

Obama is scheduled to return to D.C. on Saturday. So he might move departure up a few hours, but probably no more. He does have a telephone, you know.

NYC puts out an evacuation map. My old neighborhood of Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, is in color. So are LaGuardia and Kennedy airports. I hope no one is going anywhere this weekend.

Well yeah, but I'm guessing the Secret Service would like to have him high and dry by the time the storm arrives.

From the Facebook feed of the world's greatest TV weatherperson, Tom Skilling:

Have just learned every Nat'l Wx Service upper air observation station east of the Rockies has been ordered to launch weather balloon every 6 hrs (instead of every 12 hrs) to feed into computer models which must forecast Irene's future movement. This is a rare step and a testament to the severity of the East Coast situation. Latest computer rainfall fcsts off the NWS GFS model: Cape Hatteras: 9.62"; Philly: 7.06"; NYC 8.26"; Atl City 7.56".

This looks like some serious ****. It's not often my house gets in a tropical storm watch. Should be a fun weekend!

Wonder if Obama will be calling his vacation short.
President Obama will likely somehow wind up being blamed for the storm.
