Driving advice

Fellow SJers:
I'm faced with probably driving from Dallas to Columbia, Mo. a few weeks. I'm familiar with a Dallas-KC drive (straight up I-35) but it seems as though CoMo-Dallas is a big inconvenient.

Mapquest suggests 75 N out of Dallas to 69 N to I-44 to 54 and then to 63. That's a lot of non Interstate. I'm considering I-35 N to I-44 but even the last part is Interstate. Taking I-70 to I-35 seems as though it's out of the way, time-wise.

Any thoughts, suggestions ... prayers?

On Google Maps, the direct (partly backroads) way to Columbia times out at 10 hours, 7 minutes. Dallas-KC-Columbia (all Interstate) times out at 10 hours, 20 minutes. It's pretty close either way.

Driving advice? Get a GPS and just follow where it says to go.

I'd take the shorter route. It's about 100 miles shorter to take US 75 to US 69 to I-44. I've driven a lot of those roads and they're all pretty good roads. A lot of them are as good as interstate or at least close enough given you're saving 100 miles.

This is the easiest. The other way will be more scenic but also has a good stretch of two-lane, specifically from Springfield to Columbia (about 3 hours).

I'd do the Dallas-Tulsa-Joplin-Springfield-Jeff City-Columbia route. But, then again, I don't mind two-lane highways.

If you have time on the way back, I'd detour through the Ozarks. The leaves will be peaking in a few weeks.
