JERUSALEM (AP) - In a July 30 story about Israel becoming a haven for Jewish-American basketball players, The Associated Press erroneously identified basketball player David Blu's late mother as African-American and non-Jewish. She was white and Jewish.

On the plus side, I think they got it right that she was, in fact, a woman.

Did they at least get the part about her being deceased correct? Not to be morbid or anything, but getting that bit of information wrong would be even worse than the other stuff.

Did that once, Murphy.

Was editing a 70-year-old columnist's old-school typewriter dispatch.

I swear he referred to "the late Charlie Parker" (the small-town ballplayer, not the musician).

When I came in the next day someone said, "Billy, Charlie Parker called."

I said, "He's did."

I was told, "No, but he's pissed."
