Don’t blame Ed O’Bannon for the death of the video games. Blame the NCAA.

A lot of things amaze me in life. None more than people outraged that college basketball players should be paid money commensurate with their talents.

Why? They're a fun diversion. I sure as hell don't play as much as I used to, but taking an hour every couple of days to play some FIFA or NHL is relaxing.

We have a game night at least monthly with three other adult couples.

It is a chance to get together, have fun, eat dinner (rotates between the four couples).

Do you guys do couples stuff? I am interested in what you do, if so?

Sorry, I am not going to go out to dinner and talk for four hours with three other couples. Politics are out. Its one thing if all the couples are 25-40 and you can talk about the kids. The wives here are all older and the conversation will STILL revolve around the kids.

The games are a fun diversion, somewhat competitive, and it keeps me from staring at the other couples and hearing about so and so's grandkid.

I like this one a lot

My wife and family play this one (not good for 8 people)
Ticket To Ride Board Game

This one is very fun (boys against girls)

Interesting. ... We do Cards Against Humanity (in several versions). Hand-held games like Catch Phrase and Taboo are always crowd-pleasers. Among a couple others that I'm drawing a blank on. Euchre is standard far, too.

Yeah, Cards Against Humanity was considered a bit "blue" for this group.

I was trying to think of the name of Catch Phrase. We have had that for decades, and when we play boys against girls, that game probably gets the most competitive. I love Catch Phrase.

Never heard of Euchre

We have introduced Codenames to two other couples and they have purchased it. It's great.

Thing about all of these games, you can pick up the skills in like five minutes.

I thought Euchre was standard fare everywhere. Maybe, like bridge, it's only played in certain areas/age groups?

We also played Ticket to Ride, but before I clicked on your link, had no idea that was what that was called. Going to look in to Code Names. The boys-v-girls thing always seems to happen with others.

Catch Phrase is addictive. We probably have four versions of that.

Try out "Settlers of Catan", normally referred to as simply "Catan". It's about settling and colonizing, developing resources. Something like "Civilization" as a multi-player board game. Also, I don't know if they do it where you are, but some of the libraries here have board games you can check out. That lets you try something new without having to pay for it.
