Discovering Arrested Development

I still think that the end of Pier Pressure (Hot cops, and "That's why you don't teach lessons") and end of Mr. F (Tobias in a mole suit, fighting George Michael in a jet boy backpack as the Japanese investors watch) provided the two biggest laughs I've ever gotten watching a sitcom.

But ****, I could make jokes about this show for hours.

No touching!

Gene Parmesean! (Ahhhh! He got me again!)

Never nudes.

Lucille 2.

Mr. Banana Grabber.

Solid as Iraq!

I can't wait to read GBNF's thoughts on the various chicken impersonations.

Cha-chee-cha-chee

Has anyone in this family ever actually seen a chicken?

And of course, there's the infamous...

"I've made a huge mistake."

My all-time favorite line. Henry Winkler as their hapless attorney deadpanning: "Those are balls."

I still put on the DVDs all the time. It was just a spectacular show. The first season was, to me, the best first season of any show ever.

“Bob Loblaw Lobs Law Bomb”

"Marry me!"

"I'm a monster!!"

Narrator: Tobias listens to a day's worth of his own words, to see what Michael was referring to...
Tobias Fünke: [on tape] ... even if it means me taking a chubby, I will suck it up.
Tobias Fünke: Nothing wrong with that.
Tobias Fünke: [on tape] Oh, I've been in the film business for a while, but I just can't seem to get one in the can.
Tobias Fünke: It's out of context.
Tobias Fünke: [on tape] I wouldn't mind kissing that man between the cheeks.
Narrator: ...and he realized there is something distinct about the way he speaks.
Tobias Fünke: Tobias, you blowhard.
[chuckles]

Michael: I burned it. Down to the ground.
George Sr.: There was money in that banana stand.
Michael: Well, it's all gone now.
George Sr.: There was $250,000 lining the inside walls of the banana stand.
Michael: What?
George Sr.: Cash, Michael. What the hell did you think I meant when I said...
[strangles Michael]
George Sr.: [yells] There is money... in... the banana stand.
Prison guard: [George Sr. quickly takes his hands off Michael] No Touching.
George Sr.: No touching.
Prison guard: No touching.

I miss Farbecker's avatar of one of the characters with a sheep.

It's much funnier, and not as dirty, as that sounds.

I never saw this show when it was on TV, but my friend bought Seasons 1 and 2 specifically to make watch it. I'm glad he did. Just a great, great show and I wish more people had discovered it while it was on the air.

I don't know why exactly, but if AD had been on NBC, I think it would have survived. Both 30 Rock and The Office had crummy ratings early on and the Peacock stuck with them long enough to build an audience. Fox renewed it twice, but it yanked it all over the schedule, and then just burned off episodes at the end, even showing the last four in one day. It was a joke.

Season 1, Episode 1: Key Decisions
Grade: B
Highlight: Buster crumbling when approached by Lucille Ostero.
Interest level: 7.5/10

Season 1, Episode 4: Charity Drive
Grade: A-
Highlight: "I need my rape whistle bacl" - and whenever G.O.B. whistles...
Interest level: 8/10

I think my favorite scene was when Tobias pretended to be Mrs. Featherbottom and fell through the coffetable from the second floor. I watched that scene about 20 times and was crying I was laughing so hard.
