Help Support Sports Journalists Forum:

I turned it on for a second, found it entirely too sad and painful to hear his voice and flipped away. Just can't do it.

Dear ABC:

I'm not going to watch Lost, no matter how much you promo it tonight.

Geez, **** looks awful. My first and fondest memory of NYE is staying up til midnight watching Rockin Eve and it's still a tradition 20-odd years later. But man, this is sad.

Damn, after seeing this thread, I turned it on to see how he's doing.

Really wish I hadn't.

You want hard to watch? Kathy Whatshername from the D-List show is cohosting Anderson Cooper's NYE special.

And over on NBC, Howard Stern is apparently playing lead guitar for Lenny Kravitz these days.

As someone who has been watching **** for 25+ years, that was brutal to watch. Can someone jog my memory and tell me again what he is/was suffering from?

Stroke. Suffered shortly before NYE in, I believe, 2003.

He's been doing this--appearing in studio--for the last three years. He looked much better last year.

Massive stroke a few years ago.

I've been watching him since American Bandstand in the mid-50s.
This is very sad to watch.

My wife and I had it on to **** Clark, but after we spoke, we couldn't watch it anymore. Just couldn't.

I saw his address just after 12 and that's all I saw. Thank goodness that's all I saw. It is certainly sad. Although, that said, he's asking to do this every year. He's not being forced to. You have to admire the man's courage.

He looks like a robotic Frankenstein.

Someone should tell him to walk away. It will ALWAYS be his show. This is completely uncalled for.

I'm was almost convinced he wasn't live.

Then I realized they couldn't possibly tape that and then think it would have been a good idea to show it.

Dear **** Clark,

You're too old for this **** called self-humiliation. Stay home on Dec. 31, 2008 and enjoy your pension.

Gotta say it: Nothing quite rings in the new year on a happy note like watching folks roll out an American icon to slur his way through that. What, what Muhammed Ali not available to breakdance?

Early entrant for Downer of the Year: Watching that. Thanks for the uplifting moment, ABC.

The problem is he owns the show.
It's such a tradition and powerhouse for ABC, they'll never say "no, you can't".
