Well he's willing to drop $625 million for a franchise worth $448 million, so I think that will go a long way. Assuming the story is accurate.
Talked to a die-hard Cubs fan earlier and he is hoping for Cuban. He hates the Trib.

MLB wouldn't take Charles Dolan's money when he wanted to outbid everyone for the Red Sox. I think Cuban would be a great addition to the club, but I don't think Bud Selig and the MLB owners would see it the same as I do for some reason.

Cubes has plenty of rivals in the suburbs of Chicago, where well-moneyed men are creating cliques of financiers that all hope to emulate their pal, Jerry Reinsdorf. I know of a rabbi there who told me several of his congregants are bracing to make a bid and that he's asked to be "spiritual advisor" if they succeed. How many years were our people in the desert? Essentially the Cubs are spending someone else's shekels this year. I truly doubt Cuban succeeds.

Cuban shoots down report he's set to bid for Cubs

The Cubs are not about to become Cuban's, contrary to an Internet report.

Mark Cuban, the billionaire blogger, entrepreneur and owner of pro basketball's Dallas Mavericks, on Wednesday shot down a Radar Online report that said he is "is set to offer $625 million to buy the Chicago Cubs from Tribune Co."

"Not true," Cuban said by e-mail.

Radar quoted "a source familiar with the matter" as saying Cuban is "desperate to buy the Cubs" and "wants this so bad." It said it got no response from Cuban, who responded to a Chicago Tribune inquiry concerning the report in less than 15 minutes.

"I have no idea where they got their info," Cuban said.

Tribune Co., which owns the Cubs, the Chicago Tribune and other media properties, is currently exploring options to boost shareholder value.

I think Cuban would be a terrific owner for the Cubbies. If he can make them a winner like he has for Dallas that would be huge.
