Re: BREAKING: CLINTON CONCEDES

Haven't we known since Thursday that this was happening today?

Re: BREAKING: CLINTON CONCEDES

the tv pundits are raving about the brilliance of hillary's unifying concession speech. i call b.s.

four days too late. shoulda come tuesday night, when everyone was paying attention and obama's winning was fresh. woulda seemed much more sincere. instead, we get this on a june saturday when relatively no one is paying attention.

this came off to me as simply a political move designed with an eye to a v.p. bid after four days of consulting with every dem under the sun.

i don't buy hillary for a second.

Re: BREAKING: CLINTON CONCEDES

Can we please put the Clinton Rules away from one second? Can she even concede without someone thinking there's something sinister behind it?

That's about as full-blown of an endorsement of Obama you can get. I don't know how you can read that speech and not think she's exiting with class. Easily the best speech she's ever given.

Also, Obama is evidently taking on a number of members of her campaign staff.

Re: BREAKING: CLINTON CONCEDES

She still wanted her one last day alone in the spotlight.

It's not about me, let's talk about you ... what do you think of me?

Re: BREAKING: CLINTON CONCEDES

Yes, because Hillary Clinton is the first candidate to give a concession speech in a hall crowded with supporters and the cameras rolling.

gimme a break. it took four freakin' days to do what she should have done tuesday night. i just ain't buying.

and she may have even used the delay to politic it into the vp nod, with some staffers joining the obama staff.

personnally, i judge reactions right after a loss a lot more seriously than those displayed after a cooling down period that lasts 24 hours or more.

tuesday night was the genuine hillary, imo. today was the political animal that is hillary. yuck.

Re: BREAKING: CLINTON CONCEDES

As someone who backs Obama and was furious with Hillary Clinton this year more times than I can count, that was the classy, gracious concession that you expect from someone of her stature.

She was forced into it politically, sure. And I hope Barack doesn't put her on the ticket.

But give the woman her due. For today, she was classy.

Re: BREAKING: CLINTON CONCEDES

I don't think the Democratic Party really wants Hillary as VP, and I don't really think she wants it (or should want it) either.

With the imminent departure of Ted Kennedy, Hillary is in line to become one of the leading voices of liberal/progressive activism in the Democratic Party. In the Senate, where she's building seniority, she'll still be pretty powerful and visible. As VP, barring of course the unimaginable (ya right), she's basically locked away in a closet.

I watched about 5-10 minutes of the speech live today. It was a bunch of BS on her part.

Re: BREAKING: CLINTON CONCEDES

If she says it's a beautiful day, I wonder how she thinks it could benefit her.

Re: BREAKING: CLINTON CONCEDES

Oh, forget it.

Evidently, it was all bull**** because ... well, it just was.

We have a poster on record here that will vote for Obama, unless Clinton is on the ticket. In that case, he will vote for the candidate who will prolong the war he hates and has spoken out against -- because Hillary is a *****, and we just can't have that.

In the age of Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld and Rice and Wolfowitz and Perle & Co., I don't get the contention of Clinton as Evil IncarnateTM. I really don't.

Re: BREAKING: CLINTON CONCEDES

The grace she mustered today (gritted teeth offstage, probably) cemented a cabinet post for her. Big deal. Time to move on to bigger things.

Re: BREAKING: CLINTON CONCEDES

Don't bother Joe.
Clinton's a *****. That's all that matters.
I really hope that Obama will be the president his supporters believe him to be.

Re: BREAKING: CLINTON CONCEDES

I'm not sure anyone can be the president many of Obama's supporters believe him to be. Not these days. It would take a major world-changing event followed by decades of romanticizing his term by the historians and media.

The man has spent much of his political career running for higher political office. I'm sure someone will be eager to correct me, but I think he's only run for re-election once. He's been on the fast track since Day One.

It will be interesting to see what he can accomplish when his focus is completely on his current job, with no thoughts to further advancement. I am eager to see if he and the Democratic Congress can enact sweeping positive changes for the nation, and possibly the world. I (the audacity of) hope to see the Democrats deal well with the world situation.

And the "Bros before ***s" thing is not becoming of people who are actually old enough to vote.

Re: BREAKING: CLINTON CONCEDES

I wasn't a Hillary supporter, although her health care plan was superior to Obama's, but the way in which certain Obama supporters reacted to her was embarrassing and showed how far women have to go in this society. Oh, I know they'll be on here moaning and groaning about how they aren't sexist and how they treat women with respect and they'd vote for the "right" woman, but if you read what they've written about Hillary, the words they use to describe her and put her down, the fact they have issues with strong women bubbles right to the surface.

And yes, "Bros before ***s" is disgusting.

I supported Obama throughout the primaries. I agree that today's speech was easily the best speech she's ever given. It was indeed classy and gracious, although four days too late. And that said I'll still vote for Obama even if he's stupid enough to name her VP.
Edit: Don't want her as VP because she will overshadow him, although she appeals to the wing of the party he doesn't she's still too polarizing a figure, and the last thing Obama needs as he tries to enact change is a former President as the spouse of his VP.
