The funny thing about my non sequitur is that I am an Indians fan (always have been, always will).

Never would have guessed that -- though far too many of us are jaded and cynical. This season has been a pleasant surprise, so I'm just trying to enjoy it as long as I can. (Win this series against Detroit, pick up either a game or three. A dozen games left against Detroit, and about that many against Chicago. A lot can still happen.)

Agreed. Also, love Panini's. Coventry is a good place to go as well. I loved the Rock Hall, which has ravelling exhibits. Went twice, I'd go again. Try Little Italy.

I'm a big Cleveland fan, lied up near there for about 4 1/2 years and love going back. It's got its troubles, but still a fun city. Flats were in the death rattle stage when I lived there.

Alright bringing this thread up from the dead ...

Headed towards Chicago for New Year's Weekend from the east coast, and we were thinking Cleveland was a place we've never been before.

So:
- Where to stay? We'd love somewhere within walking distance of bars/dinner places ....
- What to see? We were thinking just the RnR HoF
- Where to eat?

Plenty of hotels and dining downtown that you can walk to. East 4th St. and West 9th/6th streets are downtown and filled with restaurants, bars, and clubs. All within walking distance of the Rock Hall. Anything from upscale steakhouse dining to Irish pub food.

Plus there’s the casino downtown in case you’re into that.

Christmas Story House is also cooler than you’d think and just a short drive from downtown.

Eat at Mallorca. Superb service and great food. A little pricey, but not excessively so. It’s in walking distance from the downtown hotels.

Depending on weather, I really enjoyed stopping by the old League Park site. I'm a bit of a ballpark junky & really like what they've done with the site. Decent little museum, as well. Hours can be a little inconsistent, though.

Last time we were in town, we ate at Mabel's BBQ. It's Michael Symon's remaining joint on East 4th. We liked it.

Craft beer is pretty good in Cleveland. If you are into that, I suggest Masthead (great pizza also) or Noble Beast in the downtown area.
Great Lakes is a grand-daddy of craft beer and it's also an amazing brewpub with great good. If you like German beers, Hansa is right around the corner. So is Market Garden, which is pretty great as well.

RIP Lola, University Inn and Greenhouse Tavern. The pandemic killed some landmarks.

Would have been fun to get recommendations from Sam Wyche when he was still with us.

Will recommend the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Was well worth it. Now ... I kinda have to make a point to go back for an obvious reason.

Just was there a few weeks ago to chat with the owners for our magazine. Writing the story right now in fact! They had an open fermentation going on for Goggle Fogger the day. Smelled awesome there!

Greenhouse was killed before the pandemic by the owner’s shady business tactics and bankruptcy. He fled town and remade himself in Chicago.

Sokolowski’s University Inn owners were old and frail and were planning on selling it off in a couple years anyway. Covid sped that up.

Lola is the only one that cited the pandemic as the reason it closed.

Both Greenhouse and Lola have similar restaurants in their spots now. Sokolowski’s had been sold to a developer planning to replace it with an apartment building.

Market is awesome, maybe the best I've visited (although I didn't go to Philadelphia's). The smells alone are worth the trip.

We drove up a few years ago to see U2 at the stadium and the Hall. Visited the market. I could've stayed all day. Have been a time or two since. There's always something cool there.
