He's probably depressed because he's got so many damn questions that he can't answer after watching this movie.
Son of a *****, this plot, camerawork and acting had all the makings of an Academy Award winner. Seriously. It was that damn good.
But they shot that all to hell by taking the easy road and failing to explain ... well, pretty much everything. You've got no idea who some people are, what their relationships to one another are, why they're doing the **** that they're doing or what might happen if they accomplish their overall goal.
But far worse than that, and I don't think I'm spoiling anything here, the entire plot is centered around the fact that all the women of the world are infertile, yet they never even attempt to explain WHY THE HELL THAT IS.

SEMI-SPOILER ALERT.....
It's explained in the movie that it's not really known why all women became intertile. The theories on it ranged from religious to environmental.
Probably a few light spoilers here.
It's fine to leave things to the imagination. But you can't have the overall premise of the film be that they have to get this pregnant girl to the Human Project to save mankind and then never tell the audience why.
The infertility alone, I'm fine with someone saying, "****, no idea what's going on there, but it's bad." However, you can't base the film on the idea that this girl holds some sort of key to the future -- and stated or not, that's exactly what this film wants you to believe -- and not go into some sort of detail as to how she might change the course of fate. Even if the explanation is as simple as, We're not sure, you still have to attempt an explanation.
