Personally, I like rednecks. I grew up in a town full of them, and they're good people.

I know, I know, there's always the exception, but generally rednecks are how Charlie described them, plus many more good qualities. Most "city" people are too busy avoiding rednecks like the plague, because they are too ignorant for them to tolerate. What they don't realize is that they could learn a few things from them about trust, respect, family, friendship and honor (and many more things not mentioned).

Kind of a gross oversimplification, is it not?

And if we start paying attention to the political and cultural thoughts and instructions of Charlie Daniels, does that mean we have to start paying heed to those of Barbra Streisand?

Why do you think Charlie Daniels is dumb? Because you don't agree with him? Because he doesn't speak the way you like? Because you don't like the way he looks?
No, because he's dumb and sounds like a parody of a southern redneck. I don't have to know what he looks like and hear what he sounds like to know he's ignorant---not to mention dangerous.

Please don't pull out Hondo's "the you don't agree with him" ****. He's not stupid because people disagree with him, he's stupid because well, he's stupid. This column could have been hauled straight from The Onion.

You've already had one dumb mother****er screwing up things in the world for the last eight years. Why would you want someone even dumber?

Bull****, bull**** and bull****. You think he's dumb and dangerous because of his views...which is dumb and dangerous.
I knew you'd show up eventually because the Angry White Man must be heard

Here's dumb AND dangerous:

A redneck would put America first and not be concerned what the rest of the world thought about it.

Because that's exactly what Fredo has been doing for the last eight years and tell me how that's worked out for you. Took your international reputation from an all-time high to an all time low. Failed to catch OBL while getting American soldiers and tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians killed as a result of an illegal invasion of a foreign country.

Jesus there are guys at my local pub who are working class "regular" folk and would probably be classified as rednecks if they happened to be Americans but 90% of them are smarter than this mouth-breather.

I'm referring specifically to what he said in the sentence I quoted.
What in the Constitution says anything about the President being able to keep people from taking God out of public life?
I've read other rants by Charlie Daniels. I don't find him to be intelligent.
That is neither ignorant nor intolerant.
Because people are trying to take God out of public life. The Constitution forbids the government from establishing a state religion. That's all it says. It says freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. But the ACLA would be happy if ever mention or hint of relgion in government and public life were removed completely. That's not what the Constitution says.

Maybe you're the one who needs a refresher course on the document.

I'm so sick of your bull**** political posturing. The ACLU does not want religion taken out of society. They want it out of government.
So did the founding fathers.
That's why the pilgrims left England, for crying out loud.
You need a history course -- or to watch/read ANYTHING outside of your echo chamber.

This entire debate is ridiculous.

There are good people in cities. There are good people in the suburbs. There are good people in rural areas. There are bad people in cities. There are bad people in the suburbs. There are bad people in rurual areas.

There are morality gaps in every part of the country, red states or blue states, cities or hamlets, churches or synagogues. There are people who are wealthy and people who aren't. There are people who are smart and people who aren't. Everyone plays a role. You can't sit around and point fingers. It's pointless and it's stupid.

Nothing will ever be solved by basing everything on demographics.

EDIT: And by the way, I've never lived anywhere but the city, and I'd like to think my family has all of those traits: trust, respect, strong values and principles and great bonds of friendship.

I'm putting the over/under on the number of times Charlie Daniels has read the Constitution at one. I'll take the under.

I'd put it at 1 for everyone in this forum and take the under there too. I'm sure everyone has glanced at it and seen specific parts, but I doubt very many people in here have read it.

The difference is nobody on this forum goes around using it as a club in some half-assed, jingoistic political diatribe. If you are going to cite it, you best know what the hell you're speaking of.

As for taking care of one's kids, I've got a friend who works Child Protective Services in rural Idaho who can tell you some awesome stories about how well rednecks take care of their "kin." An irresponsible knucklehead's an irresponsible knucklehead no matter their locale.

I honestly think the greatest problem with politics in this country are those who want to set policy via anecdote. It's a big ol' country out there with lots of different issues to be dealt with which is, I suppose, the basic premise behind state's rights. That said, I took Constitutional law as part of my minor and was in WAY over my head.

They left England to worship as they pleased ... not to practice aetheism.

And somewhere, I'm sure some black entertainer said, upon seeing Obama's progress, "sure would nice to have a brother as president." What's the different between that and what Daniels said."

And JR ... you don't get to comment on what's good for America and what isn't. Just stay north of the border and we'll be fine.

Hondo, are atheists not Constitutionally protected according to your reading?
Daniels has the right to say what he said. I just think it's ignorant. I would also call it ignorant if a black man wrote, "We need a brother in the White House because he'd pop a cap in bin Laden's ass."

EDIT: Corrected because I copied Hondo's mistake.

There's the isolationist approach that's made this the most successful eight years of my lifetime.

Oh, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that not worshipping should be an option on the list of "worshipping how one sees fit."

Hey, Hondo, I'm commenting on America's bully-in-the-schoolyard approach to internaitonal politics.

And Fredo's little adventure in Iraq meant abandoning Afghanistan which ended up contributing to the death of Canadian soldiers.

So, this is MY business, and everybody's business as much as your narrow little world might think otherwise.

Here's another of his brilliant, air-tight columns:

Darwin

The longer I live and the more I look around me the more firmly I become convinced that all things were created by God and that the Darwin Theory just doesn't hold water.

Now I know that Mr. Darwin is the darling of the secular progressive and new age sets, probably the only other fallacy besides global warming that rates so high in their collective opinions.

If you'll take the time to look at the Universe and if you'll just be honest with yourself you'll just have to admit that all of this was created, not evolved from some blob of primeval scum that took some billion years or so to ooze up out of some swamp and develop and turn into all things that breathe.

That's called the Single Cell Theory and it's the biggest bunch of supposedly scientific junk ever hatched in the halls of hell.

Take the Planet Earth for instance. It is strategically and perfectly placed in the Solar System to take advantage of the life giving sun and have an atmosphere, oceans, rain and human habitation.

And why is there such a variety of plants on the earth? And do you honestly believe that a tree sheds it's leaves and lowers it's sap in the fall, then raises it's sap and grows it's leaves in the spring by trial and error?

The likelihood of that happening is less than that of a pile of junk, coming together of it¹s own volition and turning into an atomic submarine that can fly unmanned, into outer space.

And how do you account for the time God made the sun stand still so the armies of Israel could have light to destroy their enemies, something that has been acknowledged by the scientific community. Did the earth just decide on it¹s own to stop turning?

And the silliest thing of all is that man descended from the ape family. Well if that's so, why didn¹t all the apes turn into men? Why is man alone in all creation, the only living being that can think and reason?

How about the rain cycles, the food chain and a million other things that discredit Darwin's Theory.

And most of all, how about love? Although animals take care of their young and some of them mate for life, they are totally incapable of love. That's because love is divine, a gift of God to the human beings he created.

Darwin, Huxley and company were part of the elitist intellectual set in England, atheistic snobs who did their best to discredit the truth of creationism.

If I may borrow and paraphrase a line from Shakespeare¹s Macbeth, Evolution is but a poor player who struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more, a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying
nothing.

In the future Darwinism will be looked upon as we now look upon the flat earth theory.

I'd venture a guess that if you were able to communicate with Mr. Darwin now that he'd tell you most emphatically that his theory of evolution is wrong, has always been wrong and that the Universe and everything in it was created
by Almighty God.

Yes the species had an origin, Almighty God, creator and ruler of the universe and everything in it.

Believe it now or believe it later but believe it you will.

Pray for our troops

What do you think?

God Bless America

Charlie Daniels

Again, Daniels doesn't know what he's talking about.
Why didn't all apes turn into men? How about because 1) that's not what evolution says; and 2) that's not how evolution works?

I was also unaware of the peer-reviewed scientific consensus that had coalesced around the "time God made the sun stand still so the armies of Israel could have light to destroy their enemies."

How do we even know this was a Charlie Daniels speech? It could be fake.

That's not it. It's that his arguments are simple-minded and poorly constructed and supported, largely built on a foundation of straw men.

I tend to quickly dismiss anyone who uses, as the heart of his/her argument, words placed in the mouths of "liberals" or "neocons."

It's the real deal. He gave it at at Oberlin's commencement last year.

I took a Con. History class in college. I got an A. I've read it.

I ripped through entire years of U.S. history and civics in one semester during my freshman year in high school. I can remember the principal at my high school (who taught the history and civics classes in question) quizzing me about the Constitution. I remembered an Amendment that HE forgot.

I consider myself a history buff. I used to read history books in my elementary and middle school days FOR FUN.

You'd be surprised what some people on this board know.
