A redneck would protect the Constitution and have the guts to stand up to the people who want to take God out of public life in America.

I'm putting the over/under on the number of times Charlie Daniels has read the Constitution at one. I'll take the under.

I'd put it at 1 for everyone in this forum and take the under there too. I'm sure everyone has glanced at it and seen specific parts, but I doubt very many people in here have read it.

They must not have had my U.S. History prof then. That lady practically made us memorize the entire thing.

I took a Con. History class in college. I got an A. I've read it.

I read it in all the way through for the first time in either high school or junior high.
I'll bet I paid more attention in school than ol' Charlie (who does make lots more money than me, so go ahead and bring that up if you wish).

Daniels was a huge Jimmy Carter supporter. He's not a partisan hack, as many of those who condemn him are.

I wonder what he has to say about Carter now.

And you're sure of this because ... ?

I'm referring specifically to what he said in the sentence I quoted.
What in the Constitution says anything about the President being able to keep people from taking God out of public life?
I've read other rants by Charlie Daniels. I don't find him to be intelligent.
That is neither ignorant nor intolerant.
Because people are trying to take God out of public life. The Constitution forbids the government from establishing a state religion. That's all it says. It says freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. But the ACLA would be happy if ever mention or hint of relgion in government and public life were removed completely. That's not what the Constitution says.

Maybe you're the one who needs a refresher course on the document.

Why do you think Charlie Daniels is dumb? Because you don't agree with him? Because he doesn't speak the way you like? Because you don't like the way he looks?
No, because he's dumb and sounds like a parody of a southern redneck. I don't have to know what he looks like and hear what he sounds like to know he's ignorant---not to mention dangerous.

Please don't pull out Hondo's "the you don't agree with him" ****. He's not stupid because people disagree with him, he's stupid because well, he's stupid. This column could have been hauled straight from The Onion.

You've already had one dumb mother****er screwing up things in the world for the last eight years. Why would you want someone even dumber?

Bull****, bull**** and bull****. You think he's dumb and dangerous because of his views...which is dumb and dangerous.

Charlie Daniels isn't dumb. A dumb person doesn't write "Uneasy Rider."

But his political rants are straight-up, lowest common denominator pandering.

I have a question.

Why the hell does everyone want religion in public life?

Is this basically analogous to the Cubs fan who calls the paper yelling about the White Sox being on the sports cover and the Cubs being inside? (or Auburn/Alabama, Duke/UNC, Jets/Giants, etc., etc., etc.).

I.E., they simply want their views shown the proper level of respect, even though ultimately it doesn't do anything for them? I mean, ****, isn't this what churches are for? I don't see one single thing that someone gets out of religion being in schools, courts, etc., etc. Not one. Just like the Cubs fan can read the same size story about his team on C3. What's it matter if it's on the cover or not?

I think it's ACLU, not ACLA, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that it was a typo and you already know that.

Is it too late for ask who gives a **** what Charlie Daniels thinks?

And in the interest of equal time, if there's liberal Charlie Daniels in a parallel universe, I don't care what he thinks either.

I won't say he's dumb, but we know he's dangerous given where the last eight years have gotten us.

I guess that would be The Dixie Chicks.

Equal time? Hell, this is just another thread where a bunch of bigots talk about how smart they are and how dumb anyone from the South is.

I did laugh out loud at the first two sentences, though.

Charlie Daniels is a celebrity. But I guess because he's a "southern celebrity" and not a "Hollywood celebrity," it's OK.

If Hollywood celebrities are mocked because many of them are liberals, I don't see how it's NOT OK to rip southern celebrities because they are conservatives. You can't have it both ways. If Scarlett Johansson and Pam Anderson are dismissed for talking politics, then Toby Keith and Charlie Daniels should be, too.

EDIT: And while I'm here, why doesn't anyone ever want a smart president? Who gives a crap where they went to college? I want a president who is smart, fair and has good judgment, not some "regular guy."
