Whether it happens or not ... this is a big moment.

Change the name of Yale? Really? That demand has some big ****ing balls.

Are we at 10 years yet, @Alma?

It's now real. Everything's on the table now in the brave new #superwoke world of #Cancel(insert offending racists)

Francis Scott Key can come down but Yale can't? The reckoning is at hand.

Did Johnny Harvard own slaves?

What about Jedediah Dartmouth and Bobby Brown?

most of the Ivy League is going to have to deal with this, and lots of other old line, eastern establishment schools too.

That's super terrific and all but it's a new day in American cancel culture.

Joe Rogan's on the chopping block right now but he's also got a ton of fans.

#CancelSmith ... how DARE they not allow trans men!

Smith College. ... Its undergraduate programs are open to women – including trans women – and non-binary and otherwise gender-non-conforming people; however, it does not admit trans men, although students who transition while at Smith are welcome to continue their education as a Smith student.

Does that even matter anymore?

Not necessarily, but these schools have been aware of these problems for years. As have the activists who've been pressing them on it.

So none of this is taking anyone by surprise, except people who haven't been paying attention.

This isn't just about pulling down statues and plaques and changing a few names. The merely symbolic stuff won't cut it now.

There has to be some real institutional change at these places, including, as I said, devoting some of these huge endowments to reparations. Maybe proportional to what the school earned from slavery. Maybe in the form of free tuition in perpetuity for black American students.

I don't know, but the time has long passed for the gestural or the cosmetic .

Cornell is the only Ivy school that opened after the Civil War (barely, in 1865). That may be why they're considered the league's Wazzu or Arkansas.
