I dunno but I bet this job would be fascinating and could lead to some great gigs. At the very least, would make for a cool book.

Am I going to have to work those nights, even when they last 20 hours?

I applied to a job there once, for something not in journalism. It was a six-month gig, IIRC. Didn't get it, but when I was working at the ranch met one of the guys who worked with one of the operations there. Kind of random that he'd known the position to which I'd applied.

A cruise there is on my bucket list, but I had to postpone the one I'd planned in 2013 since my job offer came early. Was hoping to visit on my next tour, but it looks like I'll be farther away than I am now. Dammit. The money is still sitting in a CD. I've earmarked it.

The Navy Seabees used to have a low power nuclear reactor at McMurdo Station.

Try Yelp.
Oddly enough, nothing on Yelp, but if you use the business option on Google Earth, you find there is a bar there called 107. (I'm assuming this job is based at McMurdo.) One review says "Good drinks, good prices, but a little out of the way." Another recommends the nude canasta tournament on Tuesdays.
