Figured it deserves its own thread. Was in obvious pain after fielding that ball.

Re: BREAKING: Derek "Jetes" Jeter hurt, leaves game

I'm the opposite of a Yankees fanboy, but I cringed when I saw that.

MankyJ just shrieked and accidently crushed his bobblehead doll.

Fractured ankle, per Jeff Passan via Girardi. He's done.

Watching Girardi. It's like a funeral. He hadn't informed the team yet. He seems to be close to tears.

"Is Alex an alternative for you at shortstop?"

"No. It's been too long."

So the left side of their 2013 infield is going to cost $47 million. But in 2014 they get a break at only $33 million.

At least Jeter can still hit.

I understand he's the captain. I understand he and Ibanez have been the only consistent Yankees hitters in the postseason.

But he's not irreplaceable. Nix came in and did a fine job in Game 4.

This feels like baseball Gods karma after Sabathia beaned Markakis and broke his thumb in September.

How did he break his ankle on that play? Pre-existing injury?
I, too, thought it might be a stress fracture because of the pre-existing bone bruise. Girardi said it's in a different part of the ankle, though. I still think it's entirely possible. If one part of the ankle is weakened, the entire ankle is weakened. And he didn't seem to roll it on that play.

Guees he won't chase down Pete Rose afterall [/bluefont]

Seriously, has anyone herd from or seen Manky Jimmy?
