I won't be watching, live anyway, I might look it up on YouTube the next day, but it's tough to see any outcome different than their second fight. Fury has absolutely no fear of Wilder, he went right after him and just dismantled him with his jab and right hand.

Reminds me a bit of Hearns in the first Leonard fight. When Leonard hurt him he had no idea how to respond, no idea how to tie up since he'd never been in that spot as a pro. Wilder completely unraveled once Fury really started tagging him.

I can't stand Jake Paul's persona. I'd love to see Iron Mike deposit him in a neighboring county.

But let's not act like Paul is talent-less, either. I've tripped upon enough of his action to see the athleticism is apparent, especially his quick hands.

By normalizing these **** exhibitions we're absolutely undermining and crowding out the real thing.

Another example: tonight's Joshua / Ngannou card. Yet another consequence of people who should know better taking Mayweather / McGregor seriously.

I'd argue Fury began that process when he fought Ngannou and nearly lost.

There's 1000 times more interest in the exhibition than the real thing. It's not like someone "normalized" the exhibition and is forcing it down anyone's throat. People are going to tune in of their own volition.

My question, I guess. ... if there is demand for the real thing, like there are enough people who want to see the best, even if doesn't get the attention of Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, how is it crowded out by the exhibition? Either enough people care about the real thing and watch or they don't.

To the extent that stunt fights like Mayweather / McGregor - and subsequent fights like Ngannou v anybody - go on a boxer's legitimate record it becomes problematic. Mayweather absolutely includes McGregor on his "perfect" official record. Which is bull****.

Back in the day, when an exhibition got made - and there were plenty, the sport's always had them - it stayed an exhibition. Ali's exhibition vs Inoki isn't part of his official record.

The other problem is how these social media fights crowd out money and interest from the real thing. We've seen Showtime and HBO abandon boxing - some of which is attributable to the struggles of new streaming business models, some of which is the intrusion of competitors like MMA and the atomization of the combat sports audience - and we're seeing legitimate fighters (ie, Joshua, Fury et al) more and more making these stunt fights instead of fighting real contenders.

The market decides certainly, but the circus bout eventually corrupts and crowds out the real thing.

I'd add to this the fact that all of these changes are taking place at a time when boxers are fighting less and less often. Given what we know about CTE, rightly so.

The gravitational pull in boxing has always been the money, so these big-dollar nonsense fights - most recently those sportslaundering Saudi Arabia - will become more and more the norm.
